Does my cat have a chronic respiratory infection, or is it possible she just naturally has poor breathing passages? Ever since my partner and I adopted her and her sister in August she has had periodic coughing and hacking fits that have been relatively unaffected by three separate rounds of antibiotics. Now I wonder if maybe she just has the equivalent of a deviated septum, or whether it's time for hospitalization. [more inside]

I actually have a few related questions. I am 22 and a first time cat owner. It's come time for my adorable kitten Erwin Schrodinger to get neutered and possibly declawed. I'm living in NYC and am fairly clueless. I don't even know about how much each of these procedures should cost. I don't want to be cheap and risk his health, but I also don't want to pay through the nose, just because it's 'the city.' Basically, I'm looking for a competent, but mid-range vet recommendation, and an estimate about what is an appropriate cost for neutering alone and neutering/declawing. Could you guys help me out? Thanks!

Mysterious cat illness

Last night, my cat suddenly became distraught, spent a lot of time crying, began hissing at nothing, etc. I took him to the vet, they gave him valium, he started acting drunk. Today, he can no longer walk. I took him back to the vet, and they say he has no kidney/liver problems, that he's probably really sensitive to the valium, and to let him come down for a day or so. I think he may have had a stroke, but the vet said that is really hard to diagnose. Has anyone else had experience with a cat stroke/sudden paralysis/staying high *way* too long?

CatPeeFilter

We have 2 cats; one an ancient, sickly 17+ year-old male and the other one a 2 year-old male. The 2 year-old has started peeing in weird places around the house (on top the dryer!!) like he's marking territory, although he's always been dominant. They both share a large catbox that's kept fairly clean. Any thoughts?

Cat flu: I'm looking after a cat for a friend, and she recently (yesterday) got a runny nose, and coughs some. She also appears listless and bored. I'm stuck at work and will get her to the vet ASAP, but for now I need some reassurance that this isn't fatal? Thanks!
