How do you port just one phone number from a family plan to a new one? My son is going off his dad's Verizon mobile family plan and is getting his own (not necessarily through Verizon). His dad has several lines on his family plan and will be keeping that account.

I just upgraded to a Pantech Jest 2 from Verizon (prevoiusly had the Jest) and every couple of days I get banner ads on my home screen. My old phone never did this. Am I purse dialing into web access by mistake, or are these sudden ads common/acceptable all of a sudden?

Cell phone question: Droid 3 user, on Verizon in coastal Maine. My phone only gets one bar of 1X data while roaming on US Cellular, while my girlfriend's CDMA Kindle and my brother's US Cellular phone get 3-4 bars of 3G data. The Verizon rep told me I should be able to get 3G from the US Cellular tower, but it's not happening. Does anyone know if there's any way to force my phone to roam on US Cellular's 3G? I know some people use custom PRLs, but this sort of thing is new to me and I'd like to do it properly. [more inside]

Just upgraded to my first smartphone last week. On Verizon and have been a Verizon customer for about ten years. Of course I find out that starting Friday, Verizon will be offering its double data promotion again. But that puts this offer squarely within my two week return/cancellation window. My question is: is there any chance that Verizon would let me take advantage of this offer now? Has anyone had experience finagling this sort of thing with them? What are some good negotiating tactics in case they are reluctant?

I just had my Verizon iPhone 4s unlocked for international use and confirmed working with two different foreign SIM cards. Three questions:

- Is this permanent? Can it ever be re-locked via software or some other method?
- Can this be used with US SIM cards, or are there restrictions?
- Is this phone now identical to an unlocked iPhone, or is it somehow different?

I use Verizon Wireless and my two years are up on one of my phones and I am looking to keep the cost under $100. I can get a refurbished Samsung Fascinate for $19.99 and it looks like a good phone. I can also get Samsung Stratosphere or a Droid X2 for $99.99. With my two year plan those look like my three best buys. Are the refurbished phones ever worth a darn? I bought a refurbished laptop over three years ago and it's running great still. All three are rated high and look OK but another few opinions won't hurt.

How can I get the delay/latency out of my cell-via-network-extender calls or Skype calls or both? Verizon says it's Comcast and Comcast says everything's fine. Could it be my router? My son got his LG VX9200 phone wet. As in the bathroom, caught some spray from the shower, not under a constant stream or submerged.
This morn, he turned it on, and now he only gets the Verizon screen...then flashes to all gray. and repeats that.
The googlefu says put it in rice for a day to get the moisture out. It been in about 6-7 hours and no miracle cure.
We are prepared for the fact he might need a new battery, or at worst a new phone, but the direst question he has, is will they be able to restore all his contacts/textx/messages?
I thought Verizon did this for me once, they say "maybe", but he is convinced he has lost everything.
tl:dr? Is there a way/a hack etc to get back the data off his phone?
