A friend from the UK who is enamored with my buttermilk biscuits is coming to visit, and I'm making her dinner. What should I serve with the biscuits? [more inside]
In late spring, I will be taking a road trip with some friends through the southwest. We'll stop at grocery stores to get a cooler and provisions, and we'd prefer not to eat entirely in restaurants, but that will have to happen sometimes. One of my friends is mostly vegan, definitely vegetarian, and I am somewhat skeptical of dining options in small rural towns. Where can we find decent food on our route? [more inside]
Over the last few years, I have become increasingly horrified by the animal industrial-complex over its appalling treatment of living beings, the hugely negative impact on the environment, and the health issues related to contaminated or otherwise chemically treated meat and dairy. I'm vegetarian, and don't eat either, but I'd certainly consider humanely-raised mutton to be much more "ethical" than, say, battery-farmed pork. What would be the equivalent for vegans? I'm interested in adopting some vegan practices, but don't feel ready to go the whole hog yet. What changes to my lifestyle would seem most high-priority, from an ethical perspective, to someone who was vegan?
I am trying to get back into cooking healthy meals where vegetables are the star and meat is an accent. My husband has varying tastes when it comes to vegetables. Recommend me some recipes/resources/strategies to cook some delicious things we both like? Special snowflake details inside. [more inside]

My mom just called; I'm suddenly in charge of two vegetable sides for her Christmas dinner tomorrow, which will have 30 attendees. What should I make? Both dishes need to be vegetarian and I'd like one of the two to be vegan. She has the potato/starch end of things covered. [more inside]
I love breakfast tacos! I eat them a lot. If I eat the exact same combination of ingredients every time it gets boring; thankfully there are endless combinations. Help me think of every ingredient that would be tasty in a breakfast taco. [more inside]
I'm working on making a few changes to the way I cook to emphasize vegetables and grains, and minimize the animal products which I totally love but need to cut back on. However, non-dairy substitutes are not always automatically healthier than the dairy option. I need your help playing a fabulous game: whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich ingredient is healthier? [more inside]
Greetings All: I have been reading up on transitioning to a vegan diet and there are so many things to think about. One of the best comments I received from someone on a previous post is that eating vegan does not equal being healthy necessarily. So I have been reading some books about eating a healthy vegan diet. I would also like to avoid gluten and somehow work on making this a slow-carb diet if at all possible. [more inside]

I'm taking a short road trip to Kansas City, MO: I'll be getting in on the evening of Feb 12th, and leaving on the morning of Feb 14th. I'm looking for suggestions for good places I could pick up used 45s, thrift stores (for clothes, old media, and general knick-knackery), and good restaurants that someone who's on a mostly-vegan/sometimes-vegetarian diet might enjoy. [more inside]
Vegetarians and Vegans, can you recommend some online resources for news and community? I am not looking for how-to guides, and I have plenty of recipes. I'm looking for interesting reads, news, blogs, etc. that deal with a vegan and vegetarian lifestyle. Any books or movies you can recommend would be appreciated as well! [more inside]

My sister just had a baby two weeks ago and is breastfeeding, and I'm taking over cooking dinner for her, her husband, and me while I'm visiting. I'm looking for quick-ish, iron-rich vegan meals I can make for them that I can also make extra of to freeze for when I'm not around. Also taking suggestions for brands and types of pre-cooked meat that are healthy, good, and commonly available. [more inside]
A friend of mine is going to move to Sweden next month. I would like to give him a book with vegan/vegetarian Swedish (or Scandinavian) recipes. The book can be in English, German or Swedish. Any suggestions? PS. In relation to this question what is the best place to buy Swedish books. It seems like there is nothing like Amazon over there.
Where's the best place to have a (vegetarian/vegan - friendly) brunch before an early afternoon Twins game?
I think I may be the most difficult shoe-buyer ever. I want them to be 1) vegetarian (no leather) and 2) actually supportive and good for my knees and feet or able to hold supportive orthotics such that they become that way. This generally gets me a small selection of flat boots, oxfords, and sneakers, with the odd casual/sporty mary-jane thrown in. I'd like to have more than just boots to go with dresses/skirts (particularly for the summer or for really dressy dresses), but I thought it was an impossibility and had moved on with my life. But lo, I just discovered the brand Orthaheel, and they have cute flat vegetarian orthotic sandals! Why oh why did the world hide this brand from me until now?! Do you know of other brands or specific shoes that will expand my shoe cuteness? [more inside]

I drink nondairy milks (mostly almond, some soy) and eat tofu. When I have made these things in the past, I have enjoyed the results but ended up with a lot of dirty dishes. A friend recommended the Soyajoy G3, which is a countertop electric appliance that heats and grinds the nuts/beans (previously in 2005, about an earlier model). Does anyone have experience with electric soy/nut-milk makers?
