I am trying to upgrade the nutritional content of my vegetarian diet for potential pregnancy. Looking for any suggestions to improve my current habits. [more inside]
I've decided that I need to stop eating red meat, or at least reduce it significantly. Those who have done it -- how do you start? What proteins did you introduce, and how do you make up for iron intake? I'm not interested in supplements, and I have a moderately picky toddler and preschooler to accommodate as well. In addition, I'm currently nursing a newborn, so quick and calorie dense is a big plus.
Really brief, dumb question about nutrition: How bad is sugar for you if you're not overweight/obese or diabetic? [more inside]
I'm on a diet and eating a lot of green leafy salad. So much green leafy salad I might go crazy. Save me from green leafy salad. [more inside]
I'm a vegetarian who is trying to lose weight. Unfortunately, I never bothered to gain cooking skills so I don't really know what normal dieters do to feed themselves during the week. Recipe suggestions, por favor? [more inside]
Greetings All: I have been reading up on transitioning to a vegan diet and there are so many things to think about. One of the best comments I received from someone on a previous post is that eating vegan does not equal being healthy necessarily. So I have been reading some books about eating a healthy vegan diet. I would also like to avoid gluten and somehow work on making this a slow-carb diet if at all possible. [more inside]

I was a happy and successful vegetarian for over 15 years and I recently gave it up. I slowly began introducing fish and chicken into my diet over the last year or so, and only recently have I begun eating red meat again. And now I can't stop. [more inside]

How many eggs can I eat? I'm a vegetarian on the South Beach diet. I'm healthy and have never had issues with cholesterol. What I'm wondering is, how many eggs is a reasonable number to eat? I've been doing at least one a day, often two. Is that too many? Does the vegetarianism mitigate it? I really love eggs. But I do want my blood to continue to be able to fit through my veins...help me!
Any recommendations for very easy low-carb ovo-lacto vegetarian snacks or meals other than egg dishes or tofu stir fries?

I’ve been pondering becoming a vegetarian for quite sometime. This is more or less for ethical reasons but I suppose converting may also have an added health benefit. I’m in college and my diet is horrible. At 6 foot 180 pounds I’m not over weight, but I’m most certainly not very healthy with this type of diet. My current diet consists of mostly processed foods like hotdogs, chicken patties with fast food thrown into the mix 1-2 times a week. I’m ready for a change though and I’m looking for suggestions. My boyfriend is an avowed vegetarian, almost vegan. Out of respect for him (and the desire to live healthier), I have switched to an almost completely vegetarian diet. Now I've gained weight... why? [more inside]

The more I work out, the more I realize that nutrition has a huge impact on my energy. When is the best time to eat various foods during the day so I have the most energy when I get to the gym at 5:30 p.m.? And how can I meet my nutritional needs, given that I'm a vegetarian who likes less-processed foods but doesn't have a lot of time for cooking (and can't handle eating beans every day)? I feel like I need a lot more protein all of a sudden. [more inside]

I am: vegan, mildy exercise-induced asthmatic, non-car owning & often-biking, slightly scoliotic (not visibly, but there's back pain here and there), have virtually no access to exercise equipment other than a set of ancient free weights, weight bench, and mat, without much money. I desire hulking guns and beefiness all over. [more inside]
