I"m flying in monday, june 27th and leave thursday. Traveling with my SO who will be busy with a conference in the day, free to hang out/do market research in the pm. I'm content to sip painkillers and hang at the pool but would also enjoy checking out local counterculture. I hate casinos but will enter them if there is considerable reason. My SO is in the bowling biz so I should seek out bowling places that crank. We will be lodged at the Mandalay Bay. Seeking general advice and on the ground likeminded hopeless libertine bohemian fellow time travelers.
Our family rarely takes vacations, and even then, just to visit family, or at best, to a nearby lake. But big leaps forward in our careers have us thinking it's time to finally treat ourselves. We're thinking of taking the kid to Vegas for Christmas and rolling out, if not all the stops, many more than we've customarily been able/willing to afford. Give us tips for Vegas in general, Vegas for families, Vegas at the holidays, and small and medium things we can do to feel like high rollers. [more inside]
I have always heard that one can fly to Vegas and back inexpensively, and stay and eat cheaply while there. Is that so? How would one find the best deals? I have no particular interest in gambling (well, maybe drop $50), but many things nearby interest me.
Next week I'll find myself, my partner and our respective mothers in Vegas for the Independence Day weekend. Whilst we're all down with a bit of a spin of the wheel, and some slot time, we're less-so pool party and nightclub people. I read a lot which suggests it is basically going to be pandemonium for the weekend. Help a fella out, and show a pair of 30-somethings, with their late 50-something mothers, how to have fun in Vegas during the holiday weekend. Thanks!
Tell me about Las Vegas. What are the weirdest or most interesting ways to gamble? What can you do beyond the ordinary slots, poker, roulette, sports betting? [more inside]
Leaving for Boston in 7 hours. Should I drive Vegas to Albuquerque or Vegas to Denver? Driving a small 2 seater if that matters. Trying to avoid bad weather. Leaving at 8am Vegas time. Won't drive after dark. Any tips on best route to Cambridge would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've noticed, in the last few months, a new disclaimer added to the old disclaimer at end of commercials for the lottery. The old disclaimer says for entertainment purposes only. The new disclaimer says something like the lottery is not to be used for investment purposes. That made me wonder if people ever hire professional gamblers to play and win on their behalf. Does that happen, and if it does, how would it work?
My husband and I will be arriving in Vegas on different days and then leaving on the same day but several hours apart. We are staying at Mandalay Bay, so how should we each get to and from our hotel? [more inside]
I'm looking for a casino on the strip where I can shoot some pool. [more inside]
Next March My girlfriend and I are planning a road trip from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City by way of some of the national parks between. The plan is to rent a camper in Vegas and drop it off in Salt Lake City at the end. I've looked, and there's dozens of companies who rent campers. Are there any companies that people can recommend in particular? Any to avoid? Thanks in advance. [more inside]
Have seen and done the strip and all related stuff. But I will have to be in Las Vegas for a couple of weeks and am wondering what else there might be to do in that city. [more inside]
I'm leaving at 10am tomorrow from Waltham, MA and driving to Las Vegas. Stressing over the weather. I plan on taking it slow...driving maybe 8-9 hours a day and not at all after dark. I've never driven in bad weather so I'm really nervous. If I take Northern route I'll be in snow in Denver and if I take Southern route there are severe thunderstorms (and poss tornadoes?) in OK and TX by Wed. and Thurs. I'm driving alone and this is my first road trip. BTW I have a Nissan Rogue that will be packed full. Looking for advice planning route home...details appreciated! Thanks!
I'll be in Las Vegas for a conference this summer, and am trying to figure out what my best options are for lodging. I'll have a fair bit of time for fun stuff, and I can't decide whether it's wiser to stay right next to the Convention Center and cab it to the strip/Fremont, or whether it makes more sense to stay on the strip and cab it to the conference (I'm also open to walking, depending on weather/exhaustion levels). I'm also not sure which way would be most beneficial traffic-wise, going into or out of the strip. If you've done this before, which option would you recommend, and are there any particular hotels I should look into?
What resources/services are available to a woman living in Las Vegas, who is about 8 months pregnant, uninsured, unemployed, and broke? [more inside]
We'll be going to Las Vegas for a long weekend next week and I'm looking for suggestions that are a little more off the beaten track. Some things I've found on Yelp so far that fit the profile, Drink and Drag bowling, Grouchy John's Coffee Shop, Freakin' Frog. [more inside]
My brother is moving to Boston (Waltham area) and he's driving there from Vegas tomorrow morning. What is the best way to get there (avoiding Colorado) and what cities would you recommend stopping for a motel to crash along the way? Can it be done in 3 days? He's traveling alone and would like to avoid snow when possible. Not looking to sight see. Just want to find the simplest way to get there. Thank you.
Mrs. and I are able to get away from the kiddos and wretched cold of Minnesota for a long weekend in Vegas the last weekend of February, first time for both of us. Please help us enjoy our rare getaway! [more inside]

I'm moving to Las Vegas for a few years. I have a lot of experience living in tourist towns and dens of vice, but I've never lived in the desert. (I've been more of an ocean person.) Tell me what I need to know to get up to speed as a local in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the desert. What, from a local's point of view, separates Las Vegas from other cities? What did you wish someone had told you before you moved there? [more inside]
Over the past 5 years, my Mom, who is still working but of retirement age, has had both hips replaced and major surgery on her knee. She's been keeping up with the physical therapy, and while things were looking bad for a long time, she is now able to walk with a cane and is able to go places around town by herself again. She's also, understandably, stir crazy from not having been able to walk or go out by herself for so long. She suggested the possibility of meeting her in Vegas over the holidays. [more inside]

I have never been to Las Vegas but will be going for the first time this summer as a bridesmaid for my friend's bachelorette party. I am not a Vegas person: I don't drink or club, I don't like being around lots of people all the time, my budget is extremely tight, and crashing at the yucky hotel we're staying at sets off all my buttons in every way. Am I going to be able to realistically make this happen, or do I need to figure out a way to bail now? [more inside]

Next month, I will be travelling to Las Vegas. For the very first time in my life. I have a whole bunch of Vegas-newbie questions. I’d like to ask you for your help. [more inside]
I'm stupid at wedding planning. I have a 2 hour gap between my lunch/dinner and a show I'm taking my guests to (both at Caesar's Palace in Vegas). Is there a really nice easygoing bar/lounge that's open at 5 pm in Caesar's or near Caesar's that you recommend for people to digest, chat, etc? It would be nice if they had some not too loud live music, too. Thanks!

Hello, My family is traveling to Las Vegas at the end of September. Knowing the hotels charge for WIFI, I am asking if anyone would know of a FREE WIFI spot near Harrahs on the strip? Thanks in advance.
What Vegas hotel has the best wifi, easy access to convention center, in-room coffee - in that order? Oh and a pool would be nice. [more inside]

I ate at a great little restaurant in Las Vegas about 3 years ago that I'm trying to find while I'm here this week. These are the details I remember about it - it was near the airport, not attached to any hotel, specialized in wine, had a European bistro feel to it, had great food. I think it may have been in a strip mall but not positive. And I seem to remember it had numbers in the name, but again, not positive. I'm on a business trip and would love to find it, or something like it. I'm staying at South Point, so being easy to get to from here without having to deal with Strip traffic is a plus.
