I’ve gotta take a quick trip to San Francisco this weekend. I think my Saturday and Sunday are full, but Friday night is still open. So I’ve got one meal to make the most of. What’s the best vegan option for one meal in the area? I’ll be flying in to San Jose, and staying somewhere between there and Santa Cruz, but I’ll have a car and am happy to go anywhere in the area. So where should I go?

My sister just had a baby two weeks ago and is breastfeeding, and I'm taking over cooking dinner for her, her husband, and me while I'm visiting. I'm looking for quick-ish, iron-rich vegan meals I can make for them that I can also make extra of to freeze for when I'm not around. Also taking suggestions for brands and types of pre-cooked meat that are healthy, good, and commonly available. [more inside]
A friend of mine is going to move to Sweden next month. I would like to give him a book with vegan/vegetarian Swedish (or Scandinavian) recipes. The book can be in English, German or Swedish. Any suggestions? PS. In relation to this question what is the best place to buy Swedish books. It seems like there is nothing like Amazon over there.
Where's the best place to have a (vegetarian/vegan - friendly) brunch before an early afternoon Twins game?
I think I may be the most difficult shoe-buyer ever. I want them to be 1) vegetarian (no leather) and 2) actually supportive and good for my knees and feet or able to hold supportive orthotics such that they become that way. This generally gets me a small selection of flat boots, oxfords, and sneakers, with the odd casual/sporty mary-jane thrown in. I'd like to have more than just boots to go with dresses/skirts (particularly for the summer or for really dressy dresses), but I thought it was an impossibility and had moved on with my life. But lo, I just discovered the brand Orthaheel, and they have cute flat vegetarian orthotic sandals! Why oh why did the world hide this brand from me until now?! Do you know of other brands or specific shoes that will expand my shoe cuteness? [more inside]
I'm looking for some delicious, filling vegan, gluten-free breakfasts and lunches that are relatively low-starch and don't use too many fake meats. [more inside]
I've tried making beer, wine, yogurt, granola bars, pickles, etc... and now I want to try making tofu. The requisite gear seems, basically, to be a tofu press or mold. If you've done this, please pitch in with your experience and tips for choosing among the available options & share your most excellent tofu-fu! [more inside]
My fridge is a 115L bar fridge with a small freezer, and it's never particularly full. I've been thinking about getting rid of it altogether. I would like to hear from anybody who successfully gets by without a fridge: any tips and tricks? what did you not realize before you made the transition? anything else I should consider? I've been organizing and running a vegan bake sale in my city twice a year for the past three years. It's a pretty manageable affair; over the course of five bake sales, I've raised just over $5,000, met some wonderful people, and had a lot of fun. While I am lucky enough to have an incredible standing venue and an amazing group of regular volunteer bakers, I keep getting stuck on one thing: PRICING. I've run into problems with every approach I've tried to use so far! Can you help me figure out a solid, reasonable pricing method for homemade vegan baked goods that will be 'sold' at a fundraising event? [more inside]

What's your favourite vegan biscuit and gravy recipe? I'm looking specifically for what I think of as early-90s-style vegan cafe food (buttermilk-style biscuits with gravy heavy on the nutritional yeast, not a stew with biscuits in it), but I would love metafilter-approved recipe suggestions, even if they don't fit that description. I'm trying to find a messenger bag that looks good and is vegan (no leather). Zappos has a vegan filter for shoes but not bags. Are there any sites that are pleasurable to use, have nice-looking stuff, and sell vegan products like messenger bags? Would be great to have for future shopping of all kinds.

I have a long wish-list of holiday destinations, and I would like to edit it down a bit. Which countries are difficult or impossible for vegetarian/vegan travellers? And which ones are terribly hard but worth making an exception for?
Philosophically, I believe in eating a plant-based vegan diet. In practice, it has proven difficult, as we are so disconnected from the animals that we are consuming. The most difficult for me is giving up dairy. So HiveMind, please help me by recommending books and DVDs on modern -day factory farming , which will reconnect me with the animals I am consuming. I am hoping that by seeing their suffering I will be no longer be able to be complicate in their exploitation. I have Our Daily Bread on DVD, and have Earthlings on hold from the library. I see there is a series on Peta.org, called Meet Your Meat. But, I really want a DVD, I'm not trying to watch stuff on my computer. I have also seen the Got the Facts on Milk documentary, but I really what to have a visual connection between dairy cows and the production of milk, so that when I think of consuming dairy I have an image that would deter me from doing so.
I am looking for gift ideas for a vegan couple who live in Denver, CO. Budget is about $80. My first thought was to find a vegan cooking class for couples somewhere in the area, but I am not from Denver and my google-fu has failed me. I'm open to any and all suggestions other than cookbooks because we have already purchased one for them. Thanks in advance!

I drink nondairy milks (mostly almond, some soy) and eat tofu. When I have made these things in the past, I have enjoyed the results but ended up with a lot of dirty dishes. A friend recommended the Soyajoy G3, which is a countertop electric appliance that heats and grinds the nuts/beans (previously in 2005, about an earlier model). Does anyone have experience with electric soy/nut-milk makers?

Since I'm not in Seattle, I'd like to help by getting some food delivered. Are there any places in Seattle that will deliver prepared vegan meals? I'm thinking a few days to a week worth of meals, not just delivery from a vegan restaurant.
