Will sawdust that has varnish kill my garden?
A friend of the family asked if we wanted a large pile of sawdust he had from doing some woodwork. Sawdust makes good mulch. We wanted to accept, but some of the furniture that the sawdust had come from had been varnished and we weren't sure if that would kill our garden and/or poison the plants. Is it dangerous to use this sawdust.

I've recently ordered a lead testing kit and found lead in the varnish on my child's 'antique' cot (we replaced with a modern one within 24hrs).

I dumped a substantial portion of matzoh ball soup on a canvas. After it dries I'm going to glue the larger chunks down, and then I need to varnish/shellac/something the canvas. What would work best?

In regards to design and press printing. Towards the bottom of this
Paper Specs article it touches on an overprint varnishing technique called "dot-on-dot varnishing."
Is anyone familiar with this technique and care to elaborate on how it is accomplished and the effect it has on the final piece?

I want to find out how to get a durable glossy lacquered(?) wood finish for pseudo wooden instrument cases. I know almost nothing about varnish/lacquer. My
last attempt resulted in this, which is definitely the right look for the finish, but the problem is that it's far more prone to damage than it should be, such that I now feel I should try to keep the surface covered and protected, which makes me reluctant to actually ever take it out of the closet or use it.
