Affordable Spain!

What are some of the best things to do in Spain in October? Going on an 11 day trip of Spain:

We will be spending the 1st, 2nd, 3rd days in Madrid, hopping the bullet train and then spending the 4th, 5th, and possibly 6th day in Barcelona. After that we're going to play it by ear, but we're thinking of going to Valencia and different spots in Catalonia (I lined up a rental car) and driving back to Madrid (it's my scheduled drop off point for the car).

Looking for awesome stuff to check out. We'll have a car from the 6th to 11th day of the trip. It would be great if things could trend toward the affordable as I'd like to have some of our savings when we get home.

Also, is there a "city pass" type thing for Madrid and/or Barcelona? We saved a bundle on our last trip to San Francisco by getting one of those. It included metro and museum entry for a flat fee.

Accommodation and things to do in Valencia, Spain?

I'm going to be in Valencia (Spain) for a few days. Can you give me your recommendations for budget accommodation and some things to do. I'll be there from 20th-23rd March, and by budget I mean less than about 30 euros pppn.
What shouldn't I miss? I've been to other parts of Spain before and have a reasonable grasp of the language. On those previous occasions I've spent my time eating and drinking my way around the bars. This time I'd like to have a to do list of sights and maybe a museum or two to give our days a bit of structure.
Throw in any other Valencia-related tips as you see fit.

Many thanks!

Convert my power: US to España!

I am an American on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Valencia, Spain. I left my electronic travel tools at home. Help! Does anyone know where in Valencia I can find a US to Continental Europe power plug converter? Today I have seen tons of US to Continental Europe adapters, and lots for various other countries - but the one store we found that even carries a US to Continental Europe adapter was sold out.

All of my various chargers and cables can handle the change in voltage, I just need to be able to fit my three-prong peg into two-round holes.

Any ideas? Bonus points for anything near the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, but my inner photographer is crying so anything will do.

parking in valencia

Monday night I’m taking a car full of people into Valencia for the Cremà of Las Fallas. What do we do with the car? Things I’ve considered include

the metro Park & Ride stops (will they be full? How far away are they?),

asking my (4-star) base hotel in Barcelona if we can arrange for parking at their location in Valencia (would they??)

the airport (far away)

and just crossing my fingers (stupid).

Tidbits: Coming to the city by bus or train does not fit our schedule, I’ve checked. Taking the metro or bus from parking to plaza is okay. We cannot get to Valencia until 9 or 10pm. I speak Spanish but have never been to Valencia before. I expect to have to pay (an arm and a leg).

Thanks for any advice that will make our willy-nilly adventure more fun and less frustrating!

O' Valencia: Where to stay during Las Fallas

So I've been wanting to go to Las Fallas in Valencia for years now and am finally going in a couple weeks. I just don't have lodging. Any suggestions? I've seen a few hostels for around $50 or so a night, but was hoping there would be something cheaper. Does anyone happen to know of a super-secret place that has clean sheets and is pennies on the dollar?

Okay, I'm probably asking for too much.

Valencia Street Parking

In San Francisco, CA, on Valencia Street, in the Mission, I've noticed that many people park in the turn lane. Is this legal? There is almost always free parking in the turn lane, but I've always been to chicken to park there. Do these folks have a pass? Are they just taking a chance? I see people do it during the day and the night, so I'm starting to think it's legit.
