Vacation locations with no cars, anywhere in the world?

I took my family to Venice (Italy) recently, and one of the wonderfullest things about the trip was that there were no cars, which meant my kids could run around freely without having to worry about and stop for auto traffic. It made a world of difference to the experience. They were so happy and I was so relaxed. Where else in the world can we go where there are no cars? [more inside]

Leaving 1 year old for a week with grandparents, good or bad idea?

Our daughter will turn 1 in August, and we have been invited to a friend's wedding in Italy (we are in the US), so we would need about 7-9 days. We normally take her with us on travels, but it's too much of a long travel flight time for her as she hasn't been on a plane yet, so bringing her is out of the question. We did want to go on a vacation just us two after her 1 year so it kind of works out perfectly. But, I'm afraid now that the time is come that she is too young, and that it will be too hard on her (and me), and I feel a tiny bit guilty leaving her. We could really use a vacation to relax and reconnect. My mother (her grandmother) is her caretaker during the week because we both work full time, so they are very comfortable with one another and I trust her completely. Has anyone traveled that long without your baby, how did it turn out?

Where in the US should we go for our anniversary?--punk beach edition

My husband and I are looking for somewhere to go on a short vacation--4 or 5 days--for our five year anniversary in late May. We have a number of preferences, but the thing we want most is a place that has a beach and a pretty good punk scene. Beach does not necessarily have to be warm enough to be swimmable, it just needs to exist. [more inside]

I have 45 days, no restrictions, no limits. Where should I go?

I just quit my job. It was a disappointment, and I want to forget about it. I don't plan to start working again for another 2 months, and I have $8000 to spend. I want to travel alone for the next 45 days. I believe that it is quite unlikely that I will have an equivalent, unadulterated period of travel time in my future, so I want to make the best use of this. I am ready to choose any point on the world map and get there. [more inside]

PNW Trip 8 Day Itinerary

I'm taking my first trip to the Pacific Northwest! Most of the itineraries I've seen are for a 9-10 day trip, but we only have 8 days, counting departure day. Trying to make the most of our time without cramming in too much. What are your must-sees for 8 days? We are likely sticking to Oregon & Washington, and want to see a mix of cities and coastline. Where should we stay in Washington DC?

I'm looking for a hotel in DC that is within walking distance of some cool attractions for a visit in May. I'd like something reasonably nice, but I'd prefer to stay below $400 a night. The ones I've found so far that look good to me are Kimpton Hotel Monaco, Hotel Lombardy, or the Mandarin Oriental (a little out of my range, but I'm flexible if it's considered awesome for the price. How to hire a support driver for a self-guided bike tour?

I've been some multi-day bike tours, some fancy & fully supported, and some self-guided, with no trip guide or SAG wagon. Both types provide accommodations and transit for your luggage. Help me plan a beach vacation in mexico

We are planning a beach vacation (for about 7-8 days) in Mexico in next few months with a 5-year-old and an 18-month-old. We are planning on spending most of the time at the beach or around the pool. Might for an excursion, if it’s something that we can handle with an 18-month-old.
