Probably easy question about PHP and unicode (UTF-8) and RegEx. I'm trying to modify a php webcalendar (VTcalendar) to allow Japanese text in calendar postings. I've found all the variables to get the UTF-8 headers, and so japanese text manually inserted into pages appears fine. But, there's an input validation thingy I don't know how to modify. I'm told that my weblog's atom feed is broken: according to feedvalidator.org this is because 'my feed appears to be encoded as "utf-8", but my server is reporting "US-ASCII". Is it advisable that I should persuade my server to report an 'utf-8', ecoding, and, if so, how? [more inside]

I'm trying to rip a CD using EAC and FreeDB for tag information. Problem is, the CD is an import (Japanese), the FreeDB tag information appears to be in UTF-8, and EAC is listing all the attributes using "non-English" characters (artist, song titles, etc.) as strings of question marks. Any idea how to fix this? Windows XP, SP2 if that's relevant.
