Multi-day hikes in Utah and Colorado

I'm probably going to be in Denver in September next year. I'd like to do a multi-day hiking trip in Colorado or Utah (or Wyoming? Arizona? New Mexico?) while I'm in the neighbourhood. Any advice? [more inside]

Hiking in Zion

I am headed to Zion National Park to do some solo hiking over the 4th of July weekend. From what I understand it is going to be extremely hot and crowded. For anyone who has been there before, can you offer some tips on logistics, stuff to pack, recommended hikes, beating the heat, etc. I will be staying in Springdale. I would like to do The Narrows but will avoid Angel's Landing due to my trouble with heights. Any info you can provide that would make this awesome would be much appreciated.

Where do I buy topo maps in SLC or Moab on a weekend?

Is there a store in Salt Lake City that sells Utahn USGS 7.5 minute topo maps that's open on Saturday? Or, alternatively, a place in Moab that's open on Sunday? For instance, does REI sell topo maps? We're visiting Utah from Vancouver Canada and we don't have enough time to have maps shipped from the USGS, but unfortunately the way things are timed we're going to be passing through SLC and Moab on the weekend. We'll need the maps by Monday morning, otherwise we'd hang around. Any help would be appreciated.

Please help save our road trip!

So, the National Parks are shut and husband and I are on a US road trip of a lifetime, during which we were due to visit/camp at many of those National Parks. Boo! Please help us salvage our trip and tell us about your favorite State Parks/hikes/non-NPS camping spots in OR, CA, AZ and southern UT! [more inside]

How busy is Coyote Gulch in late June?

Does anyone know how busy Coyote Gulch would be in late June (say, in people per day)? Or how busy the Escalante backcountry area in general would be? Or alternately, is there a message board for people to talk about the Escalante area, like there is for Death Valley?
