2004 Presidential Debates

I'm doing some research on the 2004 US Presidential Debates. For some reason I can't seem to find the definitive numbers on television audiences for the three debates. It would be great if somebody could point me to a resource that breaks down the viewing audiences in the US and abroad with as much detail as possible.

Republicanism 101 for Teen Liberals

CogentRightWingThinkerFilter: A friend of mine has a younger sister who is a well-educated and politically savvy 16-year-old liberal Democrat. In the interests of broadening her horizons, what sources for Republican or right-wing politics would you recommend for her? Since this young woman resides deep in the blue territory we've all heard about, she has little exposure to the American right other than the trained monkeys that infest television and the popular media. Obviously, this isn't limited to the right, so I'm not looking for right-wing equivilents to Michael Moore or Jon Stewart. Something like a conservative Harper's magazine would be more the goal. Or, if there is some sort of seminal book on conservative politics that is well-reasoned and well-argued, that would also fit the bill. Polemic works or anything that uses the word "Liberal" as a synonym for evil are not what I'm looking for. I'd like her to have an understanding of the reasons the good, honorable, and thoughtful conservatives exist.

Party Responsibilities

What are the rights and responsibilities of belonging to a political party, specifically in the US? [More Inside] So, for example, if the Republican moderates suddenly decided that the Republican party was too right-wing for them, what's to stop them from becoming Democrats en masse?

Would they be welcomed by the Democratic party?

Obviously, they'd have some explaining to do to their constituents, but I'd think that if this happened on a wide scale (say, 5 or more), people might start to get the message anyway.

Is there any legal barrier to their doing so?

State of the Union

To the horror of my inner political geek, I was called away to Mommy Duty partway through the State of the Union address last night and didn't see much after the recognition of the head of the Iraqi transitional government. Does anyone know where I can get the full speech in either audio or (preferably) video format online? I can read the text in a number of places, but I'd like to get that sense of emphasis and audience reaction that cannot be garnered from a transcript. [MI] I should note that while I have plenty of bandwidth, my Mac is not polluted with Real or Windows Media players, so a non-proprietary format is what I'm really after. Google isn't particularly helpful this soon after the fact.
