As a US citizen, living and working abroad for many years, I recently heard of a new law that I must file tax returns on the US by Aug 31, 2011 or face a penalty. Anyone know about this? If US citizens live and pay taxes abroad, they generally are exempt up to $91,500.

Emergency! I'm a Dual UK/USA citizen with valid USA and UK passports. My flight leaves London (where I am now) tomorrow at 2 p.m. I have my UK passport on me, in London, but my USA passport is currently in Manchester. It's 9:44 p.m. in London. This page says it's against federal law for a US citizen (even a dual citizen) to enter the USA on anything other than a USA passport. So, what are my options? I've JUST applied for an ESTA visa, it's supposed to be instant...

Anyone had any issues living in the US but flying internationally out of Canada? We (English green-card holder me + US citizen wife) live in far upstate NY and it seems that flying to London and back out of Ottawa using Air Transat is the cheapest and quickest way. Are there any pitfalls I'm unaware of? Any craziness with border control between the US and Canada if you tell the that's what you're doing? Thanks.

Looking for good, cheap accommodation in Buffalo, NY. My partner is visiting to work at Buffalo Uni for about 7 days in late September. They've offered to organise accommodation in a Holiday Inn at $98 a night. This feels a little steep. We'd like to shop around a bit, perhaps look at alternatives other than a hotel/motel. Perhaps a student "sleep in my spare room" scheme or something. Advice much appreciated. [more inside]
Asking for a friend: 2011 USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia, June 4-5. Central Washington University defeats North Carolina. At the end of the game, the CWU coach hugs CWU player Jacob Bates, a family friend. Would love to find video of the last part of this game, or a still image showing this moment. Have found some highlight reels, but not hitting paydirt yet. :(

I've often heard it mentioned that life in the USA in the 1950s was 'innocent'. I get a vague understanding of this of course; family values were high, conservatism was the norm, morality was almost Victorian etc., but what exactly does 'innocence' mean when used to describe a society at large, 1950s USA in particular? My sister would like to ride in a motorcycle sidecar before her 30th birthday (this December). I would like to make this happen! We live in the "tri-state area" (i.e. whatever's in easy reach of NYC) but will also be traveling a lot over the summer and fall, so several states seem to be an option, even if the NYC-area is not, for some reason. Can anyone identify these splats? My friend found them in her Ann Arbor MI (USA) townhouse after having been away last weekend. They were on windowsills as well as the bathroom floor. In addition, a few small items on top of a tall piece of furniture were knocked over. While she was gone, the interior motion-sensor of her alarm system went off twice, but the service tech found and replaced a bad wire, so this may or may not be related. We assume it's animal droppings of some sort, but have no idea beyond that. Can you help?

Shipping clothes from Canada to USA: what does the Certificate of Disinfection entail, where do I get it?
I have 2 large boxes of used clothing/shoes to ship to the US soon, and the post office employee told me the volume of items would definitely not pass the border unless I have a Certificate of Disinfection. Unfortunately, this document seems non-existent. There is NO information in Google, answers are always something along the lines of, "Ship it in several smaller boxes!" or "Don't say it's clothing!" which are avoiding the point: I am trying to do this by the book (legally). Does anyone have experience with this particularly evasive document, or parameters that would let Customs determine the packages are okay? Or another way I could *legally* ship the clothing to the US? [more inside]
