I'm going to SF with my partner for our first wedding anniversary - yay! We've been before and have seen some of the sights (list after the break), but are looking for things we might have missed, awesome places we haven't eaten at, great things we haven't seen, etc, so we can make the most of it. Only limiting factor: neither of us drive.

I'm going to be visiting family in the United States next week, specifically Richmond, TX and Chicago. There have been previous many posts on Chicago, so I think I have that covered but does anyone know if there is anything interesting for this potentially bored Londoner to do while hanging out in Texas?

Can you suggest some amazing places for me to visit within a ~10 hour drive of Orlando, Florida? I will be leaving Orlando on September 1st and have to be back either in Orlando or in Atlanta, Georgia afternoon of 7th September for my flight back to London, England. New Orleans is one enticing idea so far, Miami slightly less so...but very keen to get some suggestions from the hive mind. Everything from historic landmarks to city culture to the big wide open considered (and I'm a big fan of freshwater swimming too).

Non-American who occasionally travels to America wants a Southern California phone number (Los Angeles area) that has data and that my friends can text to. My phone works on all USA carriers. What's the cheapest
permanent solution? A web-based (or other non-cell) solution is also welcome as long as people can text to the number.

I keep reading rumors of Ron Paul supporters sneaking their delegates into state conventions.
How plausible is it that Ron Paul can get the nomination
with this strategy? And if it can't get the nomination, what
can he do with all the extra delegates?

For an Australian citizen thinking of moving to the United States, is it better to see an immigration lawyer in Australia, or one in the US, for consultation? This assumes that one is currently in Australia, but travels occasionally to the US.

I've often heard it mentioned that life in the USA in the 1950s was 'innocent'. I get a vague understanding of this of course; family values were high, conservatism was the norm, morality was almost Victorian etc., but what exactly does 'innocence' mean when used to describe a society at large, 1950s USA in particular?

The US states are massively in debt, and public-sector layoffs are causing unemployment to stay high, even while the private sector recovers.
The Federal Reserve can create dollars from nothing, and at the moment inflation is apparently a minor concern compared to deflation.
What would happen if the Federal Reserve assumed much or all of the debt of the states? They could pay off the debts
ex nihilo at a speed of their choosing, while allowing the states to create or save jobs. They could also simply grant money to those states that have relatively little debt. Does anything like this happen, and should it? [Not an economist]

Are there any "Americatowns" or "Little New Yorks"? I mean, are there any neighborhoods outside the U.S. that are known for having a sizable American expatriate/emigrant population and culture? I'm not talking about tourist ghettos in popular vacation spots. Nor am I interested in discussing the many American businesses and aspects of American culture that have spread outside the U.S. I just want to know if there are neighborhoods of non-American cities where a sizable, cohesive community of Americans live and work.

I'm thinking about
riding my bicycle from San Francisco to New York City next summer. Has anyone here done it? What should I know? What routes do you recommend? On which highways and interstates are bicycles allowed? What special things should I see? How do I build a solar-powered charger for a cell phone? I'd spend this year planning, training, and saving money, so I have some time to prepare.

Some
"Threat Level" questions: do countries have a similar system? Are other countries planning to implement such a system? Also, is the American system based on an existing model? I'm not so interested in the threat aspect of it as much as I'm interested in learning where the color-coded system originated and if it's being borrowed.
This version, I'm certain, was a later iteration.
