Hi MeFi,
I want to buy an uninterruptible power supply for my personal desktop. I don't need a lot of performance, just something to ride out brief blips in the power. I was thinking about getting
this one{APC Back-UPS ES BE550G 550 VA 330 Watts (4) NEMA 5-15R (Battery Backup) (4) NEMA 5-15R (Surge Protection) Outlets UPS}
This is a good idea? Do you need more information about my setup?
Thanks,

My job uses write ups for everything—for typos, for bad customer service, for being late, for heavy stuff, for silly stuff that doesn’t matter. Literally everything. How do I either learn to deal with this or figure out how to professionally approach it with the higher-ups in my company?

I realized during Sandy that 1) we don't own any sort of radio; 2) I don't have a UPS for my desktop Mac; and 3) there are surely other things/tools/resources we probably should buy now to prepare for the next big storm. Can you make any recommendations?

I need to mail approximately $1,000 worth of euros from WA to NY. We received it from our bank through FedEx, but FedEx refused to accept the shipment when I tried to send it and said that the bank must have had third party insurance. What is the best way to get the money to the opposite coast within the next couple of weeks?

My wife and I moved into a new house this year, with a different mailman and a different UPS driver. Since we just had our first baby, all of our holiday shopping has been online. To express our thanks for their efforts, we bought some gourmet chocolates from a local chocolate shop for them, and left a nice card attached to both. Neither was accepted, just left sitting where we left them. Did we run afoul of some UPS and USPS regulation, or was it a crappy gift?

UPS Ground question: where do the packages go on the weekend? If a package is going cross-country (4-5 business days, say from Thursday to the following Wednesday), what happens at "quitting time" on Friday? Does the semi go to the nearest depot and wait til Monday AM? Just curious how the whole thing works.

Need help from people renting a UPS mailbox: If mail has an address that is not exactly in the correct format, does it still get delivered? E.g., if it should be "456 This Street PMB 34567"' but it comes in as "456 This Street #34567" or even Apt 34567 or Suite 34567' does it get delivered?

Seven months ago I cheated on my partner. Six months ago I came clean to him. Three months ago we broke up. This past week we have begun to spend some time together, and I feel like we both reached a breakthrough last night. Am I crazy to have this renewed faith in/willingness to work for our love? Do I need to finally let it go? Much more inside.

Seattle area telecom: Can anyone suggest a battery distributor/warehouse that stocks deep cycle lead acid batteries of the type suitable for a DC UPS? Shipping costs on these are very high so we would prefer to buy from a dealer somewhere along I-5 in the area from Bellingham to Olympia. We're looking for 6V 220aH T105 (golfcart type) and AGM 12V 120aH batteries.

I've ordered a RAID 1 unit. It's not here yet, but I need to get an idea about how much power it draws prior to making a decision on a new UPS.
It's a 2TB NewerTech Guardian Maximus RAID 1 unit. (Two Hitachi drives inside).
Tech support says it draws a maximum of 36 watts. The online specs rate the power supply at 4.2 amps, which, multiplying volts by amps, works out to well over 400 watts. That is, if thats a valid measure of power consumption.
Anyone have experience with this or a similar unit and how much power it draws?

Working with an ex. We just got out of each other's space. Now our only point of interaction is work. It is awkward and uncomfortable, not just because of the obvious but also because it seems he's going out of his way to be unpleasant. The job is great, the pay is amazing, and the company is awesome. I've been there for a year. He's been there for a year and three months. Quitting is not an option for either of us.

After a move, our computer (an older aOpen desktop) can't sleep through the night. It's fine if we leave it powered on, but if we put it to sleep, it seems to lose power sometime in the night and does not wake up properly in the morning. Will a cheap UPS (
this one, for example) solve the problem? Any other ideas?

I feel bad giving tough love to my mom when she is feeling depressed about breaking up with her asshole boyfriend. I don't know how to make her situation better for her, or to ease her pain. All I can do is lend an ear but its annoying that my privacy is invaded constantly because shes totally out of it. I never had a private moment to myself all my life, that's a different story. How can I make light of the situation without losing my own sanity?

I had posted a question a little while ago on how to finally move on after ending the on again off again relationship I had with my daughter's father. I received great avice, thanks. I cannot say that I have yet fully moved on, but I am now having more good days than bad. However, one thing I am having such a hard time dealing with is the fact that my daughter is now spending so much time with either his family or his new girlfriend, who he began seeing again only 3 weeks after we broke up. (he dated her briefly during one of our separations)
