I'm trying to keep up with WordPress upgrades (2.0.2 just came out yesterday, and I was only halfway through upgrading 30 installs to 2.0.1!), but I swear there must be an easier way than the way I'm doing it.

Can I download something that allows me to raise the upper limit for CPU speed in my motherboard? Not talking overclocking, just something that allows me to put a 3.4GHz chip in a mobo originally spec'd to only go up to 3.2GHz (might have been 3.0).

I received a decent tax refund and I'm thinking about doing a computer upgrade. The last time I rebuilt my system was in 2003. I don't need to be able to play the hottest new FPS (although I do game occasionally), but I want to be able to comfortably run Windows Vista when it's released. Here are my current specs:

The time to upgrade my desktop from Win98se to Win XP Home has come.
I have XP on a Dell disk that came with a laptop. Can it be used? Or, do I buy new software?
Can I do it myself? How much trouble am I going to have if I do it myself.
Will I have less trouble if I take the computer somewhere and have it done?
Personal experiences appreciated.

Having recently splashed out on a nice black PowerMac 5500/275, I want to upgrade the RAM. I'm aware that it takes 168pin, 5v EDO DRAM (up to two 64mb DIMMS), but finding these in the UK is tough. I won two 64mb chips on eBay at 1p, but they're the wrong voltage. Anyone know a (cheap) supplier of the stuff here in England?

This old Mac: My 450 Mhz G4 has held up for about 5 years now. I was on the market for a new iMac G5, but as we Mac people will be wanting to upgrade to intel machines in a couple years, this seems like an unwise purchase (the
Osborne effect and all). So I'm thinking a processor upgrade might be a good stopgap. Anyone have any experience with this?

My mother is upgrading from an ancient (pre-USB, pre-FireWire, OS 9) G3 to a much more recent G4, but I'm not sure how to transfer her files. The G3 doesn't have a CD burner, and the G4 doesn't have a zip drive. Is there a quick and easy way to connect the two computers via Ethernet or file sharing so that I can copy her files to the new computer?

I recently got hold of a PowerMac 5500/2275 (the black one with the TV tuner), but the ethernet port has been upgraded, and is now a modem. While this is all very nice, I'd much prefer it to have LAN functionality. What, exactly, am I looking for on eBay to equip this Mac with a network card, and how difficult are they to install?

I've been thinking of upgrading the memory in my Sony Vaio PCG-GR370 laptop for some time now, but recently it came to my attention that there may be issues with some vaios that do not recognize memory above 256Mb (which is what I currently have in it). I attempted a google for issues with it, but, well... Just try search for "sony vaio memory 512" on google and you'll see how useful it is.
Which brings me to my question: Does anyone know anything about said issues with vaios? If so, do they apply to me?

I'm considering upgrading the processor (and possibly the motherboard) on an older PC. Am I going to have to reformat the HD? Obviously, I'll back up all the data just in case, but I was under the impression that the OS would just find the new hardware upon booting up for the first time. The 14 year-old at the local CompUSA claims otherwise--that I'll have to rebuild the OS once I put the new processor in place. So which is it?
