128 gigs just isn't enough anymore

I bought a Dell XPS 13 9343 about a year ago. I've managed to pretty much fill up the 128 GB capacity of the SSD already. I am contemplating upgrading the memory, which leads me to ponder: Am I crazy to attempt this myself? If so, what should I do instead? If not, what type of memory should I install? Also, what do I do with the SSD currently in my computer if I install a new one? [more inside]

Expanding a hard drive?

I'm buying a new laptop, and have a choice (via work) between a 500GB but faster (7200) harddrive, or a 1TB hard drive that is slower (5600). I'm fairly certain I'm going to go with the faster drive as I will need to do some video editing, but I'm worried about the size of the memory (precisely because I'll be doing some editing!). Any advice? How hard would it be to expand the size of the drive if I find that I am, indeed, in need of space? I have a couple of external drives, but I don't know if they get me ahead at all as they're the slower speed as well... THANKS! :)

Make my aging Macbook great again.

My Mid-2010 Macbook Pro, which currently runs Mavericks, has been fuddy-duddying around as of late. Beachball city. As such, I finally pulled the trigger on upgrading my hardware: I bought a new SSD (the Samsung 850 EVO 500gb 2.5'') and 16gb of RAM. I'm preparing to install the SSD, and am trying to figure out how best to migrate my data from the old hard drive to the new one. I'm also wondering whether now would be a good time to upgrade to El Capitan. Help? [more inside]

Upgrade Macbook Air from 10.6.8 to El Capitan, or is that a mistake?

I have a Macbook Air that is happily chugging along on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Obviously, I haven't upgraded the OS in, well, ever, which hasn't really been a problem. However, lately, I'm starting to get little issues here and there, where I can't use a particular app or software because my OS doesn't meet the minimum requirements, etc. My biggest concern about upgrading is whether my computer has enough oomph to handle the newer, bigger OS or if it will just get bogged down. Looking for cheap but easily upgradeable desktop

I want to spend less than $400 to buy a fully functional new desktop. Regardless of the CPU it would have, I want to be able to put in an i7 later on. I want to be able to add more RAM and a powerful video card without having to get a new case or power supply. HDD should be at least 1TB. It can start with 4GB of RAM, since I plan to upgrade. If it's 4GB i'd prefer it to be on a single stick. I would also prefer Windows 10 to be already installed.

Did I just do a clean install? or just a regular install

I have an “early 2009” Mac Mini that I am nursing along. It’s not my main computer but I do use it enough to want to keep it running smoothly. Last year, without putting a lot of thought into it, I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. I noticed a hit in speed even though the reviews I was reading after the fact said the opposite should happen. Whatever. So this past weekend, I thought it’d try it again with a clean install. Do I need to do a clean Windows 10 install to remove Windows 7 cruft?

In the past, every time I've upgraded Windows (3.11 to 95 to 97 to XP to 7) I've done a clean install. For the first time, I'm considering upgrading (to Windows 10) with an in-place (overwrite) installation, not a clean install. My Windows 7 has been acting badly lately, probably due to various registry cruft. Does an in-place install take care of that, or is all the registry cruft carried over, and should I do a clean install instead? (A clean install would involve many hours more work)

Should I upgrade from Mac OS 10.7.5 to OS 8 or further up: 9 or 10.10.3?
