I'd like to try my hand at a Linux distro that manages to balance current software with limited days of figuring out why something exploded for apparantly no reason and now X server won't start, or there's no audio, or no networking, or no... whatever.

My dad's computer was (mildly) compromised a few months ago - he visited "one of those sites" and ended up clicking "ok" to the dialog boxes and installing an unwanted (and very hard to get rid of) toolbar, which also changed his search engine and home page. I looking for a reliable and free way to schedule facebook updates. I have used laterbro, hootsuite and socialsafe. All have issues. I post about 12-20 times a day and they frequently stop sending the updates at some point. The best solution would be web based. I would also like to find a free web based email scheduler as well.

Does anyone know of a somewhat minimalist Windows program (or perhaps even a website) that would let me merely type a Facebook status update with little distraction on the screen aside from a countdown of characters left -- a sort of WriteRoom or Q10 for updates, although it doesn't necessarily need to hide menu bars and taskbars and so on? Ideally an application I could bring up by clicking on a system tray update. I'm uninterested in Facebook notifications. Basically, I'm just looking for something that would let me quickly update my status with little visual distraction and then move on to whatever else I was doing at the time.

I'm encountering the same problem with Gmail and Firefox (on Mac) described in
this question, but I'm too computer illiterate to understand the fixes that the "best answer" refers me to- I can't find "about:config" to make sure dom.storage.enabled is TRUE; "About Firefox" just gets me the little box with the icon and the version number. Can someone explain to me how to implement in the fix in simpler language with more basic step-by-step instructions?

How do I sync a twitter account with a Facebook
Fan Page?
Please note that I am not asking about Facebook Personal Profiles but the Facebook Pages that organizations have. I want to be able to update twitter by updating the Facebook Page Wall. I also want to be able to update the Facebook Page Wall by updating Twitter.
I have tried both the Twitter and Selective Twitter Applications for Facebook but neither of them work.

When I do Add -> Existing Web Site in Visual Studio 2008, if the existing site was created in an earlier version of .net (say 2.0 and I'm running 3.5) Visual Studio automatically starts an update wizard to convert the site to 3.5. How do I turn off this behavior so that it simply imports the web site without updating it?
I know this is possible because the first time I did this it happened flawlessly, but at the time I didn't un-check the "automatically update sites next time" check box. Gah.

There are a number of subjects which I don't have a particular interest in, or don't have the time to spend researching, but I would still like to keep up to date on when new information comes up. For example, I have a friend who suffers from
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a condition for which the most popular treatment currently is simply to prescribe lots of pain killers. It occurs to me occasionally to look it up and see if there have been any new developments, but I think it would be great if I could receive updates when they come up, perhaps in an RSSesque fashion. Is there an effective way to receive automatic updates on a subject like this?
