Trying to remember a carbonated ginseng beverage sold between 1988 and 1994 at Whole Foods in Austin (and eventually sold at the incredibly fancy flagship HEB). I seem to recall that it came in a purple can and tasted vaguely like dirt. I haven't seen it since and it's driving me crazy that I can't remember what it was called. And no, it was not Ginseng Up.

What are the best resources for computer novices? I often find myself in the position of helping friends and family figure out how to operate their computers (typically Windows XP or Vista, but OS X tips are welcome too.) While I realize there's no substitute for face-to-face instruction, my time is not infinite and I'd like to be able to set them up with some bookmarks or documents that will give them guidance when I'm not around. I'm looking for a short mystery stories book I read in a library. One of the stories is where a character comes up a flight of stairs and thinks he sees something (a murder?) in someone's apartment, but it's actually some kind of mirrored reflection of a mirrored reflection of someone through a window across the street. The book/collection was published before 1996 and if I remember correctly, was all short story mysteries of 5 to 20 pages.

Does anyone own the Tall Tarzan Gift Shelf? It's a collection of a couple dozen 60s-era Burroughs Ballantine paperbacks in two cardboard cases, each ~ 5" x 15", with two tiers. There's a pic of the spine at the bottom of this page (which incorrectly lists the set as one case of 20 books). I'm trying to figure out how many and which titles were originally included in the full set of two cases. [more inside]

Ever more song identification madness. Late 80's industrial dance song with a man's voice saying "close the window, won't you darling?" (or possibly "open the window, won't you darling?"). Fairly certain the lyric "I hate the light" (or "I hate delight") was prominent. I thought it was an A Split Second song, but my attempts to track it down have failed.

is elvis mitchell doing regular movie reviews in print anywhere now that he's left the new york times? i assume he's still on NPR's weekend edition (which i never listen to), and i've seen him on PBS and (i think) CNN, but i miss the written reviews. my inability to find information on google leads me to believe that he isn't doing print reviews anymore, although it may simply be that he's writing for a publication with no on-line presence. that's okay--i'd probably subscribe to something that carried him regularly.
