I'm an unemployed third-year law student, have my last interview in four hours. Any tricks on appearing intelligent, charismatic, and, most importantly, not desperate?
Have had four interviews with different employers so far, have not heard anything back. This is my last shot at employment before I go back to desperately combing job listings. Interview is with a judge in a district I've never lived in, who is of the opposite political persuasion as I am. This will be my first of this type of interview so give me your all-purpose i'm-the-right-person-for-this-job tricks.

My state's unemployment regulations have a section indicating that turning down a job offer is grounds for terminating benefits. Given that at this point, I'm not being asked to provide them with any data as to whom I'm applying, and given the extraordinarily large number of people on the unemployment rolls, am I correct in saying that turning down an offer really has little practical chance of getting back to them? I got laid off about a month ago in NYC. Applied for unemployment insurance and got approved, no problems. Now I got a letter from the UI agency from my former former employer (2 employers ago) declining my claim and requesting a hearing on the basis that I voluntarily quit. This is true, and I was laid off from the place I worked at after that employer. Why is this happening? [more inside]

Unemployment benefits have been extended 33 weeks in many states so some people will receive 26 + 33 weeks of unemployment. From the little I understand about how unemployment works, an unemployment benefit year is 52 weeks long. What is the point of extending unemployment to 59 weeks if seven of those weeks can't be claimed?

Okay, don't know much 'bout economics, so can somebody please explain to me in simple terms how, with the US treasury handing out trillion-dollar bailouts like lollipops, the unemployment rate skyrocketing (thereby removing the real wealth generators from the economy) and no country in the world crazy enough to lend us a cent -- HOW can we possibly not wind up with hyper (and by hyper, I mean Weimar-style) inflation, sooner rather than later?
