ask to resign or accept my layoff? How to spin it in interviews?

I took a job at a preschool and was just let go a few days before the 90 day probationary period ended. Before this, I was temping as an administrative assistant. My plan is to go back to the temp agency. Will it look better to prospective employers if I resign, or does it even matter since I'm going into a very different field of work? I'm mostly worried about prospective employers calling the preschool to confirm employment ; asking if I'm eligible for rehire, and hearing "no". [more inside]

YANM Employment Lawyer, 3 parter

So, I got royally screwed over. State: California. After a tenuous start with a new employer, it was clear my boss wasn't going to work with me to ensure my success on the team, so I started looking around. Found a new job, great fit, great company. Applied, interviewed, and was given an offer. Signed the offer, resigned (verbally) from the current job. [more inside]

Explain California Unemployment Benefits.. (to me like I'm a 5yo)

So I'm about to be laid off, I think. And I've never dealt with unemployment (I'm lucky) before. So what are some important things to know? I have some basic questions: 1) How long do the benefits last? 2) If I get a job offer, do I have to take the first one -- even if I expect better offers later? 3) Should I end any/all freelance work while getting EDD benefits? There are only bad options; which is the best one?

Out of work, unemployment benefits finished, and I feel like I need to choose between "take the crappy job that doesn't pay well" and "hold out for something better while temping and living off my savings." The catch? I've been fired twice in the last three years, so my employment history doesn't look great on paper even if I'm a good interview. What's the best job search strategy? [more inside]

I think I need to leave my JD off my resume to get a job. Please help.

I've seen a lot of similar questions, but they don't quite get at my particular issue. I got a JD in 2010 and an MS in Social Policy in 2012. If I only had the MS, I'd be able to find work. The JD is holding me back. The most common feedback I get is "you're a flight risk" or "we can't afford you." I get it, but it's not true, and I can't convince them otherwise. [more inside]

How to tackle multiple goals or get shit done w/anxiety etc.

Sort of recently (about 2 & a half months in) moved to a brand new town so my husband (I'm, 29, he's 32) could go to uni. I was so stoked on having a clean slate to start everything anew, but not so much any more. Reality has set in and i'm dealing with soaring bouts of anxiety and pretty severe mood swings, and can't seem to decide anything tangible to get shit actually done. Any ideas / practical advice regarding how to deal with this would be so welcome. I have so much time alone i think i'm actually going a little nuts. More inside [more inside]

How to remain positive while unemployed?

The stress of unemployment and the possibility of not having anymore money to live off of is taking its toll on our health. How do I aspire to overcome significant barriers to employment?

I have Type 1 bipolar, which in practice means I've had 3 episodes of mania (between 2002 and 2005, 9 months total in hospital) then relative stability but regular low moods and trouble with motivation. I haven't worked since 2005 (previous questions here always had me feeling about 12 months away but I never got closer, partly because I chose to stay in a relationship and be a carer in a situation where I couldn't then get out to do training or voluntary work). I will soon be able to access more help but getting back to work seems a mountain to climb when I am so used to being long-term unemployed and getting into that rut where even doing the laundry or taking out the trash can feel like an effort. I recently obtained my Master's degree and have been in the job search for about a month now, mainly applying to NGOs. Unemployment figures for Germany during the Weimar Republic?

I need to show unemployment figures for Germany during the Weimar Republic (starting no later than 1923) in a way that consistently compares apples to apples and not apples to oranges -- i.e., total number of unemployed OR total percentage of workforce, but not sometimes one and sometimes the other. (Having both would be ideal.) I would also prefer a specific month for each figure, if possible, rather than just the year (i.e., "Unemployment reaches 5.1 million in September 1932" is more useful than "Unemployment reaches 5.1 million in 1932"). How to Protect My Employability

A combination of anxiety attack and anemia (the term used by the paramedics was close to that, I don't recall) caused me to pass out in my office. I was discovered unconscious, and came to as the EMT people arrived. I was not scheduled to work that day, but agreed to help the shift supervisor and departing assistant manager, who refused to come into work. The shift supervisor did not react well to the possibility of having to stay in the store to close it. This resulted in a public confrontation after the paramedics left (because I refused further medical treatment; they told me to go home immediately). I ended up closing the store. My store manager, who tried to fire me once already, has informed the District Manger and HR. I was told to come in at my scheduled time, but I can expect to sign papers.
