In a few days I will be staying with friend's family in western France, at a house they own. I will be in the UK the next few days. Normally I would bring wine or chocolates as a thank you for the accommodation, but France does these much better and cheaper than the UK (I am told). I am Canadian. What could I bring that would still be a great gift, that I could find in London? It should be something like food or drink, and something of benefit to people on vacation. Price about $50. The friends I am visiting are French/Canadian and appreciate quality/luxury

Where can you suggest that isn't obscenely expensive. [more inside]

This morning I was hit by a bus while cycling to work. I'm not badly hurt but currently in hospital waiting to have my shoulder checked and cuts cleaned out. I'm in London, England. The bus driver was 100% to blame. The police have taken a statement from me and I have two phone numbers from witnesses. What should I be doing now to make sure I receive adequate compensation and the driver is dealt with appropriately?

So I graduated last year and have been working in sales since then. I'm very intrigued by the concept of teaching english abroad, as I've had some great experiences teaching children before, but am overwhelmed by the amount of different schemes and companies. I have never really travelled before, and I know this may be seen as a big step, but I have this uncontrollable itch to just go for it while I am young and relatively free. I'm really looking for any and all advice from you guys - anyone who's done it, anyone who's considered it, anyone at all! Ideally, I am looking for a half-year placement, with a UK-based TEFL company (although it seems that many companies don't care where you are from). Having said that, I could be swayed by a year-long course. I am very excited by i-to-i, and heard about this through a recommendation. However, as I say, I feel a little like I am stabbing in the dark. I have read with much interest some previous questions, and have heard mention of Dave's ESL cafe, but this seems to be mostly aimed towards the USA. [more inside]

I'm going to learn to drive a car. I have never driven a car before (unless you count, like, dodgems). I'm in my late 30s, and have recently moved to a town on the edge of nowhere (in Wales). The idea of driving is beginning to make me nervous. It's a combination of the "it's hard to learn when you're old" thing, the "rural place so no dual carriageways" thing, and the "oh my all those cars seem to go so fast" thing. What can I do to make this easier? Are there any "learning to drive for dummies" books that are worth getting? Or should I just stop panicking, bite the bullet and book myself some lessons?
Asking for my friend. My friend is finishing her associate's degree in a creative field in May, but is not sure of whether she should look for a job right away, or accept her admittance to a prestigious and high-profile exchange program at a foreign university.
