Coppicing in America

Where, in America (or Southern Canada), can I attend workshops to learn about British hurdle-making, traditional fence-making, and other coppice crafts? Preferably, in the Midwest, but anywhere East of the Rockies would be considered.

Which teaching abroad scheme should I choose? And... how?

So I graduated last year and have been working in sales since then. I'm very intrigued by the concept of teaching english abroad, as I've had some great experiences teaching children before, but am overwhelmed by the amount of different schemes and companies. I have never really travelled before, and I know this may be seen as a big step, but I have this uncontrollable itch to just go for it while I am young and relatively free. I'm really looking for any and all advice from you guys - anyone who's done it, anyone who's considered it, anyone at all! Ideally, I am looking for a half-year placement, with a UK-based TEFL company (although it seems that many companies don't care where you are from). Having said that, I could be swayed by a year-long course. I am very excited by i-to-i, and heard about this through a recommendation. However, as I say, I feel a little like I am stabbing in the dark. I have read with much interest some previous questions, and have heard mention of Dave's ESL cafe, but this seems to be mostly aimed towards the USA. [more inside]

Any tips for an older learner driver (UK)?

I'm going to learn to drive a car. I have never driven a car before (unless you count, like, dodgems). I'm in my late 30s, and have recently moved to a town on the edge of nowhere (in Wales). The idea of driving is beginning to make me nervous. It's a combination of the "it's hard to learn when you're old" thing, the "rural place so no dual carriageways" thing, and the "oh my all those cars seem to go so fast" thing. What can I do to make this easier? Are there any "learning to drive for dummies" books that are worth getting? Or should I just stop panicking, bite the bullet and book myself some lessons?

Studying Abroad vs. Working

Asking for my friend. My friend is finishing her associate's degree in a creative field in May, but is not sure of whether she should look for a job right away, or accept her admittance to a prestigious and high-profile exchange program at a foreign university. How does UK traffic law work in terms of speeding tickets?

How does UK traffic law work regarding being responsible for speeding tickets for rental cars? I have received a photo of the car that was rented under my name and that, on the Avis papers, I was the driver. However you cannot make out any kind of face or person driving the vehicle in the "photographic evidence" that the traffic cam took. In the UK, am I liable for the cost of the fine, regardless of whether the actual driver at that time can be proven from their photo? I.e. because I hired the car, I must pay the fine? Would there be any chance between the Road Safety Unit and Avis that I would be in more trouble if I can't remember if I was the driver at that time, the photo doesn't help, and I don't know who of the people travelling with me was driving at that time either (even though they weren't registered drivers for the rental)?

Advice or Experiences with UK Immigration?

I am a Canadian that has been living in America for 8 years as a permanent resident. I currently live with my English boyfriend, who is here on an L1 visa (which is being transferred over to an H1B). As I've done this before (Canada to America) I do know that one of the best ways to get some insight into the underbelly of immigration is to ask people who have been through it. [more inside]
