Share your share knowledge, please!

UKSharesFilter: Some of my relatives have had a small selection of the shares in an inherited portfolio disappear over time from their online tracker, so my question is what has happened to the following stocks: CHB.L; GAA.L; MFBUEUGI.L and MFBUTRU.L, and should they have received any notification, documents or even cheques, (and what can be done about finding out more)? (I should clarify that they still have the certificates and haven't sold, traded or otherwise physically disposed of them, it's the listing themselves that now come up as 'No Such Symbol' on the internet listing of the portfolio).

Jumping the pond, where to live?

I will soon be transferring from San Diego, CA to the UK. The office is near Farnborough, Hampshire but from what I can tell, I don't want to be living there. I am debating between living in London with a 40 minute train commute (from Waterloo), versus living in another town closer to work and probably cheaper rent. What to do? [more inside]

Carry On Camping

I'm looking for UK camp site resources/info that are a bit less mainstream. I've done a fair amount of camping locally to where I am in Sussex on farms and other less organised camp sites -- all found via word of mouth -- but I'm looking to head a bit further away. The problem I'm finding is that most camping info is either 'proper' camp/caravan (*shudder*) sites or 'alternative' eco/politics-type places. Any ideas? [more inside]

Recommendations for international movers?

Seeking recommendations for international shipping/moving companies. I have a small household's-worth to ship from California to the UK (no furniture that's worth keeping, but a large studio full of stuff). There are many companies online but I know from friends' experiences that these waters are shark-infested.

Moving to the UK for almost a year, can I keep my USA cell phone number?

I don't know anything about cellular providers in the UK, which is where I will be living for nine months starting this September. I have a verizon cell phone right now, but I my two year agreement with them has expired, so I can cancel without being charged a termination fee. What are my best/least expensive options? 'Pay as you go' mobile phone in London

Please advise us on mobile phone calling plans in London. We'll be on sabbatical in London for 6.5 more months. We're in university housing and can only call on campus without using a calling card. We've gotten tired of dialing 30+ digits, so we'd use the mobile as our main phone, at least for outgoing calls. We'll be making a couple of calls a day in London, and two or three 10-20 minute calls to the US and France each week. I assume we want a 'pay as you go' plan, since we're only going to be here less than a year. We don't need a fancy phone. We'd probably prefer 2 cheap phones. Also, will our phones work in western Europe? Thanks for your advice.

Help an Australian escape for good!

An Australian friend of mine is in the UK with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend has a full visa, whereas she is only allowed here if she's in a relationship with him. Trouble is, she wants to leave him, and there's still 2 years to go before she can get a full independent visa. If she splits with him, she has to move back to Australia after 2 1/2 years here, and start all over again. What to do? Is there any way she can stay if she splits with him?

Low cost printer deals in the UK.

Have you recently bought a great printer? - tell me about it. I've been asked to do some research for a friend who needs to buy a new printer - and I'm swimming in data. The main criteria are: low-to-medium price; colour/black & white (as opposed to some of the amazing deals on b&w only laser printers around); reasonably priced consumables (this may be the trickiest part to assess); reliability. We're in the UK - any online deals have to be accessible to this country. TIA!

Organic fruit & veggie delivery in London

I can't always make it to my local farmers' market, and I'd love to arrange regular weekly deliveries of organic fruits and vegetables. I'm in London (NW3). Google turns up a ton of possibilities but I'd prefer personal recommendations. Any suggestions? If anybody has suggestions for delivery of organic meat, eggs, or dairy products, in addition to fruit and veg, I'd be interested in those, too.
