Help me feed my 20-something wanderlust. Difficulty level: Wheelchair

I'm like every other post-college twentysomething in lots of ways: I make too little money, watch too much Netflix and indulge in an existential crisis oh, about once an hour. Also, like many in my cohort, I love the idea of packing up a ratty old duffel bag and heading off to some far corner of the world to taste, see and do all I can, while maybe giving myself either a leg to stand on once I return to the job market here or the warm-n-fuzzies that come from volunteering and/or service learning. All pretty standard fare. Here comes the doozy of snowflake: I'm in a wheelchair and have certain difficulties with speech fluency, owing to my CP and spastic diplegia diagnosis. Try as I might, I can't get myself to give up on the dream of spending a year or more abroad, even with all this in my way. Help me get there, oh beautiful hivemind? [more inside]

Educate me on these crime statistics

The Wikipedia page on statistics about rape shows a very high crime rate for countries like UK, US and Australia in stark contrast to, say, India. The gap can't be explained simply by under-reporting, as that exists in all these countries (even assuming different rates of under-reporting). Is it because these countries have different definitions of rape? Or something else? [more inside]

Chiropractic Regulations Worldwide

In Australia, to be a chiropractic you need to study formal chiropractic degrees (Bachelors and Masters at least) and do years of pracs that are pretty similar to other medical courses. Chiropractic is also recognised as a Skilled Profession under Australian immigration, and are generally considered amongst the same league as physiotherapy and other musculo-skeletal therapists. However, in the US and the UK, chiropractics are often considered quacks and charlatans. Why the huge discrepancies? [more inside]

Will an Australian Wii work in the UK and with UK games?

Hi, I am working in Australia for the next month, before going home to the UK, and then most likely moving out to Australia again in a few months for good. I would like to buy a Wii and get going on Zelda, but am struggling to find out if it will work back in the UK and with UK games. So far I know that: 1) Australia runs on similar voltage to UK, so no issues there 2) Australia and the UK are both PAL, so no issues there No-one over here seems to know anything about this - are the two countries in different 'Wii regions' (they are different for DVDs). Thanks Chris

Transfering large sums of money

I want to open a savings account here in the UK for my god-daughter who lives in Australia. What hidden taxes and other nasty surprises can I expect when I transfer it to her when she's 18... if its even possible.
