Two Totally Unrelated Questions About THIS VIDEO. Not the content of the video, but the usage. 1) What flash player/UI is that? Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I feel like I've been seeing it not just on Gawker sites, but on many others. Is that a standard player UI that is built into Flash for output to .flv files? 2) Obviously this is totally unauthorized usage. Would this be considered "fair use"? Can anyone recommend any articles on the current state of fair use and online video? Are companies like Gawker and Huffington Post (example) on firm legal ground with this kind of excerpting, which they then host in their own systems/servers, or are they just gambling that the web is so anarchic, that Mr. Big Media Company won't come a suin'?

I've been asked to build a web site for a company that is offering online courses--the kind where you sign up and there is a series of steps one has to complete, not the kind where it's just an archive of study material. People pay, register, complete weekly assignments, etc. I'm looking for a) good examples of sites that do this; b) good examples of sites that market this (ie, not as concerned about the "assignments/courses" aspects as the "why you should study with us" and "look how we offer this stuff up" aspects); c) feedback from anyone who has taken such a course and has opinions on what worked/didn't work well regarding it. I just gave up on two pages in quick succession; the first hung while it waited and waited on something from akamai, which was apparently taking a nap just then, and the second while it waited and waited on something from doubleclick, equally asleep. Like I care whether a page manages to do its dirty background business with doubleclick. Is there any browser that has a [SKIP IT] button you can click that means "give up on what you're trying to get right now, skip over it, go on and load the rest of the page"? Would such a button be feasable?Or have I been missing something that's been in front of me all the time?

I have been assigned as Project Manager for a project to design our company website. In order to understand how it will be navigated and ensure that all the project stakeholders understand its high-level structure, we will need to create a sitemap / site outline. Can anyone recommend any software or methodology ( sticky-notes on a wall? ) for doing this? I have tried using Visio, and it just seems too cumbersome.

A friend of mine has a philosophy PhD paper that takes the form of 100s of short aphorisms. There are several different narrative "paths" through these. He wants to put them on the web and allow people to choose their paths through. What's the best way to do it? each aphorism as an xml record, each with a "tag" for "next aphorism in path A", "next for path B.." etc? Bonus Guinness for suggestions on how web users can set up and save their own "paths" thru for others to follow.
