txt 4 free plz

My wife and I text each other a lot throughout the day - enough that I go over my one zillion text per month limit. An upgrade to the next level (unlimited) would be $30/month. What's the best, most seamless way to get free (or very low cost) texting? I only need it to work between the two of us; I can use regular texting for others. [more inside]

Simple data extraction program from TXT to CSV?

I have several hundred machine-generated, human-readable TXT files; one text file per serialized device tested. Each file has test values in predictable places, although in a very irregularly-shaped "table" if you could even call it that. I want a simple Windows program where I say: "Okay, program, here's the row and columns where field #1 starts and ends, ... here's the row and columns where field #n starts and ends ... Give me a CSV file with those values I need and nothing more." [more inside]

Yes, I need even SIMPLER than notepad :-)

I need to streamline the insertion of variables into complex, but regular, plain-text code, which will ultimately reside in a basic TXT file. I’d like to find a text generator, or create a web-based form, or buy a program that will allow me to 1) establish or designate a block of text with defined places for variables 2) Type in values of the variables 3) It then places those values inside the block of text then 4) spits out the combined block of text with the variables in place so that it can be cut and pasted in totality. Much [more inside]

Two files become one

I have two files, an Adobe Encore subtitle file of a particular film, and a dialogue list txt (no times) of a newer, shorter cut of that same film, which is to say that there is nothing in the short cut that isn't in the longer cut. I want to ensure that's the case and check the two versions for consistency, i.e. make sure the content in the new/shorter version matches the dialogue in the old/longer version. Is there an automated way to do this that doesn't involve CTL+F and a lot of cutting and pasting? Bonus challenge: the subtitle file is En/Chinese, the dialogue transcript is Chinese. I'm checking to make sure the Chinese is consistent. [more inside]
