Hi, thanks in advance for helpful comments, suggestions, recommendations. I am looking to begin an improvement project on a single fam home the day after tomorrow in Arlington, TX. So, of course I waited to the last minute before deciding to seek alternate options to Home Depot and Lowes (the only big box home improvement stores in the area). That's all I need, Mefites! I will have to go get the materials from Southwest Arlington TX, so preferably

Moving to Boerne/San Antonio next week. Looking for two things: cool places/shops/places to visit; and web sites.
I want to know about the one cemetery that has the coolest old statues, the park that offers the best secret hideouts, the store that has the weirdest hand made tchotchkes. Two particular items of interest: fabric stores (NOT Joann's - I want the cool, local place); and a place to get very nice wood for woodworking, since the hubby likes to make stuff, including guitars. Music stores would also be welcome. I'm an interior designer, and would love an introduction to the "to the trade" stores/warehouses in the area, too.
Web sites that will help me get to know the area. Especially as I'm a stay at home mom, and I'd love to meet other parents and find cool places to take my kids. These could be business web sites, organizations, blogs, you name it.
For the record, I'm not religious at all and I lean very liberal, so super conservative stuff is definitely not what I'm after.
Thanks, mefites!

How do I accurately determine which state to claim as my 'tax' state. For example, I work/live overseas for 2 months at a time, then I get 1 month off and usually travel or go to the US, but I do not rent an apartment, own a home (have a lease or mortgage) - I usually crash on friends' couches, and I keep my belongings and car in NC (in a Public Storage unit), but my mail, driver's license and voting is registered in TX. Which state can I legally claim? I know I need to claim a domicile in a state, and was hoping it could be TX.

I work overseas, and my car is in storage in NC, but it doesn't get used so I figured I can keep it insured but turn the plates in since I want to claim TX as my residence state (have a TX drivers license, registered to vote and my mail goes there etc.) - do i have to have my car registered if i want to insure it but not use it?

The wife and I are in the process of buying a home in Houston (TX). We have/had a real estate lawyer that we were working with, but she has gotten extremely non-responsive (we just found out yesterday that she has some family issues), and the deal just got a little more complicated.

Where's a good spot to go stargazing around Austin (naked eye or with telescope in tow)? I noticed the AAS has a dark sky spot at Canyon of the Eagles, so places other than that. Preferably safe places that won't get me arrested.

We just moved to Austin, TX and have a new baby boy due next month. Of course I wait until the last minute, but does anyone have any recommendations for a mohel (ritual Jewish circumciser) in the Austin area? The ceremony will not be huge, since we do not know anyone here yet.
My wife is not Jewish, so s/he would have to be accepting of that.

I recently purchased a new Palm T|X with WiFi & Bluetooth. It's been a long time since I had a Palm, and it was the old Palm Vx running Palm OS 3.x. Obviously, they've come a good ways.
I'd appreciate any recommendations as to cool Palm apps. I really don't need to be uber-heavy on the games (although I do like nostalgia games, i.e., stuff from the '80s and Doom), and would appreciate more how-did-I-ever-live-without-this kind of convenience/useful apps. I'm aware of Pocket Quicken, SiEd, and MealTip. And, for what it's worth, I'm on a Mac.

A friend and I are hoping to go to
SXSW's music portion this year. I am 22, but my friend will only be 20. Will we have trouble getting into a lot of the shows? Will the whole SXSW experience not be fun for us? Is all the fun to be had 21 and over? And uh... How well will a fake ID work down there?

Any insight on trip routes, staying alert(I'm aware of the sleepiness dangers), etc would be appreciated.
