See, Vera? Dress yourself up you get taken somewhere fun.

I need pet names for guns from movies and TV. For example, "Winona" was John Chrichton's blaster on Farscape, and "Vera" was Jayne's tricked-out assault rifle on Firefly. Please give me more examples. Thanks!

Was this a real TV show or am I imagining things?

Was this a real TV show or am I imagining things? Circa early-mid 90's, an American show about a family (maybe just a single dad?) with a few sons (ages between 10 - 15?) that owned and lived at a holiday motel complex. The episode I seem to remember is one of the boys was cleaning or going through a guests room after they had stayed and found a porno mag. [more inside]

what did movies think of tv in the eighties?

I just watched Poltergeist, which I am now thinking seems right-wing, almost Catholic. at the end of the movie, the husband kicks the tv out of the room and serene music plays. is this a common feature of the movies of the time? did people kick the tv out of the room a lot in the movies of the 80s?

UKTVFilter: Help fix my freeview!

UK TV filter: Please Help me fix my TV antenna signal. I've recently moved into a new shared flat & am trying to get our TV to work. In the bedrooms there are regular tv aerial sockets on the wall, but there is no signal to any of them. In the lounge, there looks is a panel with three satellite plugs (picture link) which has an old Sky box connected. We would like to use freeview, but it looks like there is no antenna plug in the lounge, and no signal in the bedroom sockets. The sky box does however seem to get a satellite signal from its plug on the wall, but none of the others will give a freeview signal (or are the wrong kind of socket). [more inside]

tv program predicted rise of electronic books in 1980s

Trying to remember the name of a TV series program that I watched in the late 1980s that in one episode on digital information predicted the rise of the electronic book. There was a male host who led the show, which was an examination of new technologies. In the particular episode I am looking for, he recounted an idea that books in the future would be distributed from something like an ATM machine where you would insert a card onto which the book would be downloaded. If it helps, I remember he stood at some kind of podium during the broadcasts that had like an acrylic/lucite egg-shaped glowing top--random detail, but these are often what jog people's memory.

Looking for a new TV

So I'm looking for a new TV and of course I want the most cost effective for my needs. The thing is I will use it exclusively with my HTPC which is connected to my surround system, meaning I don't need sound, a smart TV, hard drive, 3D, Internet or networking capabilities or any sort of receiver. All I really need is kind of a big computer monitor. It should of course have a great picture. Can you recommend me something? Price can be up to 600€, size around 40-42 in., for screen type I don't have preferences (not beamer).

So in this next shot...

I've been re-watching Mefi favorite Community with all the commentary tracks and really enjoying it. So, I'm looking for other good TV shows (genre unimportant) on DVD that have commentary for ALL the episodes. Preferably a show that is complete, but that's not necessary. Most important is that every episode have commentary on it. Recommends?

1995 (Canadian?) kids' show name

I'm trying to remember the name of a children's TV show broadcast on (I think) YTV around 1995, I think it was in the slot after Camp Cariboo. It was probably Canadian, and it had a mailbox puppet that said "YOOOOOOU BET!" when asked if there was any mail, and one of the men on the show used to dress up like a bee, which I remember terrifying me as a child. It may have been broadcast on TVO, but I'm fairly certain it was YTV. [more inside]

Metafilter Rule Number 30: When there is a plate of beans, over-think it

I'm looking for lists of TV shows and movies that have characters referencing numbered lists of rules. As examples in Wedding Crashers they reference a random assortment of rules e.g. Rule #110: Never walk away from a crasher in a funny jacket. Fight Club has "First Rule of fight club is..." What else has a set of rules like this?

Does Jax really walk that way?

I got hooked on "Sons of Anarchy" reruns. Some great acting, and fine straight-ahead storytelling. How 'bout that Gemma! But tell me, is Charlie Hunnam (who I know is a Brit, by the way) swaggering as part of the role he plays (Jax) , or is he limping because of a real-life disability, or does he just walk that way? Once I noticed, it started driving me nuts. Have unearthed zippo on the web.

Entertain Me!

I know everybody asks this (and I've read through the previous questions looking for recommendations), but what should I watch next? Preferably on Netflix or Hulu Plus (not web only). In general, I tend to like: mysteries/crime procedurals/law dramas, especially with a quirky twist, and also shows involving a quirky band of misfits (or individual) working outside the law to bring justice to the little people while finding out who done them wrong (e.g. the A-Team, Burn Notice, The Pretender, etc.) I also like heist shows and sci-fi. And occasionally anime. [more inside]
