My TV doesn't boot

My TV won't boot. The screen turns on, but it doesn't display anything (it's just solid black) and doesn't respond when I press any button besides the power button. Does anybody have any clever ideas for trying to deal with this myself before I send it in for repair? [more inside]

Gilmore Girls replacement?

Gilmore Girls filter: my girlfriend is missing the recently deceased GG and is looking for a new show to fill its shoes. She'd like another show with a similar feel and tone, but nothing too intense or overly dramatic (e.g. not One Tree Hill). What should she watch?

I sort of miss only having 4 channels.

I recently bought a fancy smanchy Samsung hdtv. However it has a totally different way of describing digital channels than any listing service does. For instance, I look at listings and they what say is channel 709, my tv thinks is channel 9-1. What is going on? Is there some way to get listings and my tv to agree?

I want my Cable TV Recalibration? (Zenith TV circa 1990)

Our TV is a Zenith Space Command (circa 1990, serial # SG5245S). At present it's hooked up to cable from Shaw (connections are all connected), but we only get about 4 channels (the rest are fuzz). Can the TV be re-calibrated? We have no TV manual (bought it used), and there is no apparent "reset" button, etc. There are buttons that say: Skip, Add, Band, AFC (?). Any guidance is appreciated....

Closed-captioning and cable TV.

The FCC seems to indicate that broadcasters are required to include closed captioning, at least for new programming, but I have purchased several very recent movies on cable that lack closed captioning. How are the cable companies getting around these requirements? Why is closed captioning so inconsistent? [more inside]

What is this TV show that licensed my music?

I just received a check from Pump Audio. I submitted my music to them a while back and, apparently, one of my tracks was used in a TV show. Woo-hoo! However, I can't find any information on the show it was used in. The information on the statement is as follows: Usage Description: Yearbook Episode 1998 Air Date: 6/11/2006 Ntwk/Pro: ABC I've Googled, to no avail. I can't even find any reference to a show of that name. Anyone have information or a suggestion of how where to look? Or, super-extra bonus points if you know how I can get a copy of it!

How do I turn my computer into a TV and is it a good idea?

How do I turn my computer into a TV and is it a good idea? I've just moved into halls of residence at university and I've found that I can't tune my TV because I don't have the right remote. I don't have alot of space (I can't fit my keyboard on my desk at the moment) so I thought it might be a good idea to get a tv tuner for my computer instead of buying a new tv. I've just ordered a macbook so I'd prefer to use that but I also have a desktop PC I could use.
