I'm trying to find TV shows (or films) that contain a particular trope that I noticed while watching some old 1980's shows lately. Namely shows where the main character provides a sort of running narration throughout.

My boyfriend and I are having a hard time coming up with movies to watch. Brainstorming based off of movies, directors, and genres we tend to like has gotten us nowhere, so I'd like to see what the hivemind can come up with based off a list of our recent favourite tv shows.

As a mid-20s female, I find USA's "Covert Affairs" to be an empowering, fun show to watch. Please recommend me more movies/TV shows/media with fun, feminine-but-not-overly-sexualized women who are accomplished and achieving their goals.

In my youth, I remember occasionally reading about contests where you'd win a cameo on a TV show. Were these real and did people get to do that? Did anyone famous come out of it? Is there an online archive of the contest winners somewhere where you can watch their acting?

Are there any childfree-positive movies or TV shows, i.e., where the protagonists 1) do
not have children, 2) explicitly do not
want children, 3) are reasonably happy with their choice, and 4) do
not change their minds by the end of the story? (Spoilers herein for
Four Christmases and
Sex and the City.)

In-medium tributes: Can you think of instances where fans/players have died and been memorialized in some way in a show or game (if you can think of other forms where this has happened go right ahead)? Examples would be
Leyla Harrison (X-Files) or
Dak "Caylee" Krause (World of Warcraft).

Do any of you remember a PBS show, late 60's early 70's called The Great American Dream Machine? The last show had a segment about FBI involvement in bombings and fires on university campuses, presumably to justify on campus investigations by the FBI. By the next week this show was canceled. A very early leak of what later became COINTELPRO.
It was a favorite of mine, any one here remember it?
