Two questions about the 2004 Tsunami

Tsunami-filter: I have a two part question about the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. One involves the BBC/HBO miniseries "Tsunami: The Aftermath," and the other involves the guerilla warfare going on in Indonesia at the time. Okay, first question: In the BBC/HBO miniseries "Tsunami: The Aftermath" there is a scientist character named Dr. Pravat Meeko who supposedly wrote a report in 1993 which predicted the coastline's vulnerability to a tsunami, but his report was ignored due to developers' connections in office. Is this character based on a real person/real report? And if so, where can I find more information?

The second part of this question is: have there been any articles about the Free Aceh movement and the guerilla fighting/civil war in Indonesia who (at least temporarily) laid down their weapons following the Tsunami? I'm looking for in-depth articles about specific people involved, fighters, politicians, etc. My google-fu has failed me.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

radar tsunami relief article?

Before it went under (the second time), Radar magazine published a story about the relief workers in the area affected by the 2004 tsunami. (I think it was published in late 2005/early 2006.) Is it available online anywhere? I can't find it on radaronline.com or via Google.

Who speaks Indonesian?

Does any one speak Javanese? I need a Javanese or Indonesian translation of a couple of words for a Tsunami Relief Concert. In the upcoming weeks, I am promoting a tsunami relief concert for the Indonesian Red Cross to help rebuild after the terrible incident last Monday. We have yet to name this benefit concert, and we were looking for an authentic Javanese word that translated to something along the lines of "help" or "survive" or "benefit," whichever has the best ring to it.

If no here speaks Javanese, we'd settle for an Indonesian tranlation as well. Any other words that might be appropriate, in either of those languages, are welcomed as suggestions as well.

temporarily-restore-faith-in-humanity-filter: a local tv station happened to scrounge about $1.6 million in ~24 hours for the tsunami relief effort. to me, that seems incredible. is this an anomaly for a community-based drive?

Poems to help you cope with disaster

in light of recent events in SE asia, are there any poems (or poets) to which you have turned in order to help you cope with, explain, reflect, respond to the destruction and/ or the relief efforts? [mi] there have been some great threads/ questions in the past regarding the subject of poetry-- both here and "in the blue."

i'm a high school teacher (of american and british lit.) and feel both a responsibility and a need to inspire some conversation/ dialogue about the tsunami with my students.

i immediately thought of this post about a year after 9/11.

Volunteering for Tsunami Victims

Does anyone know of any charities/aid agencies in the London area that are in need of volunteers for the Tsunami Earthquake Appeal? [MI] Ideally I'd like to help on the phone lines/office work as a I come from a customer service background and would best suit my skills. If there are other options then I am happy to lend a hand in any way. I've already emailed the Disasters Emergency Committee but I guess it might take a while to hear back. The only phone numbers I can find are for donations and I don't want to stop money coming through by phoning them. I hope someone can put me in the right direction - I need to help in some small way as well as donating money. Thanks and Happy New Year all.

Aside from Amazon and Apple, are any other prominent commercial web sites turning over significant portions of their home pages to tsunami relief?
