What is the most fuel efficient used light pickup?

I will soon be in the market for a used car and am thinking of getting a pickup. Likely I'll be looking at trucks that are roughly 10 years old (I am flexible but want something new enough to not have a lot of maintenance issues). My biggest priority is having the least impact on the environment I can while still driving a pickup truck. What should I shop for? [more inside]

I'm moving, difficulty medium, what are some general purpose tips?

I'll be moving our (small-ish, fits in a 26 foot rental truck) belongings to our new home and setting up shop before my wife and child follow after me in a week or so. What are some tips you learned from your last move that you wish you had learned prior to your last move? [more inside]

Buying a car. Difficulty level: Pacific Northwesterner in Maine

My son has just been stationed in Kittery, Maine for the foreseeable future (three years) and needs a car. He believes he needs a vehicle with a little extra something-something: ground clearance and AWD or 4WD. But I'm here visiting for a week and I'm 110% positive all these folks aren't swapping out their small sedans for big trucks when winter hits. Or, do they? [more inside]

How Long Has This Been A Thing?

In the last year, I've noticed more people flying American flags from the beds of pickup trucks. I did some travelling earlier this month and also saw this in Arizona and Utah, but not in Washington DC. The reason for that geographic distinction might be obvious; a different demographic lives and works in the DC Metro area than Salt Lake, Tucson or Portland. But it reminds me of the couple of years right after 9-1-1, when people were flying little flags from their driver's windows. [more inside]

Help me pickout a pickup truck?

I want a pick-up truck that gets good gas mileage, preferably manual transmission, can seat at least 5 people (4 doors), and has at least dual airbags (preferably side curtain airbags?) I'd like to spend under $6,000 and I generally prefer Japanese, but I am not 100% set on that. It seems I'll be getting a small truck with extended or "king" cab, early 2000's I guess. I have never bought a pickup truck before and I'm a little lost.

Short story? Brother/sister in back of truck, coffin falls, kills sister

Simple summary: A brother and sister rode along to the store in the back of a truck to purchase a coffin. On the return trip home, the coffin falls on the sister and kills her, and they have to go back to the store to buy a coffin for her. Google has had some mighty strange or irrelevant suggestions to my query, but nothing that seems right. It's probable that I'd recognize the cover or the name of the book. [more inside]

What would be involved in converting an old SUV into an electric vehicle

This is just a thought experiment at this point, and probably will remain so. In the back of my mind I have the idea that when my old SUV finally gives up the ghost I might rip out the internal combustion drivetrain and convert it to an electric vehicle, possibly with a removable range-extender generator. Setting practicality aside for the moment, can you help me envision what this would involve? [more inside]

Cheap, reliable used car or truck with a little character?

I haven't owned a car since 2010, but now it seems like going back to a two-car household might be a good idea. My wife drives a 2004 Volvo S40 daily to work. She often gets home very late on weekdays, and usually takes it to meet her cycling group for the better part of a day on Saturday or Sunday, and I have started to feel like I'm too reliant on her schedule or my friends to get to weekend activities, or to duck out to get another few bags of mulch or can of paint, etc. [more inside]

Does this scene from an Eisenstein film exist?

Is there a scene in a Sergei Eisenstein film where goods are unloaded from a truck/rail car and passed out or passed down a line? I thought I remembered one in "The General Line," but I can't find it-- of course the film is two hours long and I saw it once 15 years ago. Or perhaps there's a scene from another black and white movie from a different filmmaker that I might be thinking of? Thanks.

Truck or trailer?

Keep the pickup or get a trailer? I bought a Ford F-150 pickup truck about 9 months ago for using out at a rural property I co-own.
