WHY YOU DIE ON ME NOW?

Have I killed my HP dv6700 dead? Whenever I plug in the AC adapter, the LED panel lights up like this, with the speaker LED flickering purple. Hitting the power button makes the screen flash intermittently. No response beyond that. [more inside]

Old laptop, new trick: Laptop screen darkens--except for the cursor.

Posted for a friend: Her laptop (Dell Inspiron 1500, I think) is having a lighting issue. After a couple minutes of being on, the entire screen will darken perceptibly, except for the mouse cursor. Everything is still easily legible, however. This is a new quirk for her laptop, and it's driving her bonkers. What is it? [more inside]

Toasty Laptop

Why does my laptop run 10 degrees hotter when plugged into a ground fault circuit interrupter receptacle? The machine runs at 40-45C on battery, 45-50C plugged into a normal outlet, and 55-60C on the GFCI in my basement. Plugging into a surge protector doesn't seem to help. Why is this happening, and is there a hardware fix?
