I am a very frequent user of MS-Word, right now Word 2003. I routinely drop pictures into text documents, selecting the layout option "in line with text". I have inherited a document with wonky picture behavior, where putting a picture in-line makes most or all of it disappear. The document originator seems to have temporarily solved by floating all of the pictures over loads of paragraph marks, which is un-elegant and will not please my learned client. My mad Google skills have failed me for an explanation. I have tried everything from monkeying with the advanced layout (Picture Position) settings to lowering the acceleration on my graphics card, all to no avail. (Virtually) all suggestions will be cheerfully tried.

I have some video .zip files that I have downloaded into Tiger desktop latest OS X. I then downloaded the latest version of Stuff it expander. I continue to get the error message:
"Unable to unarchive "name of file" into "desktop". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted."
What does this mean? I've looked in all the Mac help forums and can find nothing. Also, what do you think is the best place to get simple Mac help with quick responses?

My girlfriend has a 2006 Vespa scooter (still under warranty, less than a year old). Last night, it simply wouldn't turn over. No warning signs before this, no problems. Full tank of gas. I can hear it click, but the motor simply doesn't catch.
I'm not much of a gearhead. Any suggestions on how we might troubleshoot this more ourselves, before we have it towed to a dealer? Any basic checks that we can do, before taking it in to the shop?

Trapped in a maze of twisty cables, all alike: yesterday one of my harddrives (about two years old) started fucking up (I/O errors) whenever I tried to read some directories (like /usr/bin and /sbin, helpful). Boot with knoppix, by some miracle am able to read the drive, fsck it. I switched the cable going from the mobo to the CD drive with that going to the hard drives, and then it worked. At some point my other hard drive (less than a year old) starts to have similar errors, but worked on reboot after a fscking. Today: same problem as before! But, on merely switching which drive was above which, so the cable fit in more naturally, it works! So my question: could simply twisting the cable have caused those errors? If not, where's the error more likely lie—with the drives or the motherboard?

I am going crazy about this, and google won't turn up anything useful. Laptop with no CDrom or floppy: Took HD out and installed XP using my desktop. Freezes loading mup.sys. I already installed the MB swap patch.
Basically what I am asking is: Can you copy the entire XP Pro CD onto your Hard drive, and set it as a boot option? Can it work? Does anyone have any ideas?

I was going to post in my original posts regarding my stupid HP computer but they have been archived. Has anybody ever heard of a computer having "too much" power? We resolved the problem to a power supply issue but now I'm being told that the new power supply I purchased was too much for the motherboard.
True? False? Wishful thinking?
