I've been filling some of my idle time by playing Bastion (
previously), and have fallen in love with the
soundtrack. I'm pretty sure I remember some thematically similar stuff in Firefly, as well, for what that's worth. The Bastion team have categorized it as "acoustic frontier trip-hop," but since that's a genre that they pretty much just made up, I was hoping that my fellow AskMe folks could point me at other similar music. Special snowflake details after the break.

Another song identification question. This time, a possibly trip-hop-ish song. There was a female vocalist and I remember it being featured on a number of dramatic TV shows here in Australia during the 90s.

Identify this song: Dub / TripHop feel. Possibly by DJ Shadow, more likely by someone else who sounds similar. Distinguishing feature: Snare hits come in groups of six, and after the sixth hit, there's the sound of a gun reloading. I don't think there were any vocals.

Trip Hop (or downtempo or whatever): I love Tricky, Massive Attack, Hooverphonic, Portishead, Laika, Lamb, Sneaker Pimps, Martina, etc. What other, new acts have a similar sort of dark, humid and metallic aftertaste?
