Is there a tribe that links the human soul (or spirit) with the throat? I remember being in an intro Anthropology class and watching a video of a young girl in an African tribe being buried alive because she had lost her voice and it was thought she was dead. [more inside]

I'm trying to find a book mentioned on mefi a while ago. It talks about a tribe of people who have a unique sense of motion or time. I've searched but nothing relevant comes up. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Web communities / Friendster knockoffs. I've studiously avoided delving into any of these, but suddenly, by tomorrow, I need to be more knowledgeable than I am about them, especially Tribe.net. I went there to check it out and it's "down for maintenance." I searched here in AskMe, and found passing references but nothing in-depth. Can anyone point me to some overview of these type of sites, which ones are tailored to what kind of connecting, which ones are still around, which not, which suck, which don't, and why?
