I will be doing 2 months of archaeological field work in South Africa this summer. It's my first time in the field abroad, and I'm interested in travel insurance since field work is potentially riskier than regular travel.

So I was just more or less forcibly kissed by a street thief. Not sure if I was just assaulted, or the hapless victim of a charming rogue. Are there steps I should take about, eg, STDs (HIV rate here is pushing 35%)? Any other street safety steps you can recommend? Better travel insurance?

What does it mean to be a UK resident for insurance purposes? I'd like to buy multi-trip travel insurance. However, I'm currently working on a contract in another country (France) until the end of May.

My wife and I are taking a month-long trip from the U.S. to France and Italy later this year.
Do we need travel insurance? If so, how much and what kind? Where do we find it? We have medical insurance that applies abroad, so we're mainly worried about cancellation insurance in case some sort of disaster strikes before the trip. Is it possible to buy travel insurance without medical insurance? We've never done anything like this before, and have no clue about "best practices". What can you tell us?

I have to travel to Johannesburg for 3 weeks on business so I thought I'd check our corporate travel / life insurance. I'm covered for $20,000 which I consider way below par. I need business travel life insurance options.

Our family is possibly going on a trip this summer, but I would like to buy non-emergency, non-medical travel insurance. This is basically insurance if I change my mind, or if my plans have to change. My search thus far has proven fruitless. Any suggestions? [more inside]
