Northern Italy travel recommendations?

Northern Italy recommendations? When travelling across the top of Italy--south of the Alps but north of Venice--from Slovenia to France what are some of your favorite places to visit? Any must-sees? I'll be making this trip near the end of May with three other people in a car. We expect the Italy part of the trip to last a mere couple of days.

Is it fair for me to want to live close (walking distance) to work?

Is it fair for me to want to live close to work? My fiancee (soon to be wife!) and I are thinking about moving to Melbourne (Australia) and the place I want to work at is located in the middle of the city. I've suggested living right in the heart of the city so that I can walk to work, but she's getting upset with neighbours in our current place and would like to live in a house (which implies out in the suburbs)... How soon in advance to purchase airline tickets to get cheapest flights?

How far in advance, or how close to the time, is the most advantageous time to purchase airline tickets in order to get the cheapest fares? For instance, if I were planning to travel in early August, and it's late April now, should I buy my ticket now, or should I wait until closer to the time (and how close is the "sweet spot")? Are there risks of the price going up substantially (more than $100)? This refers to U.S. travel (SEA-ATL in this case), traveling mid-week, with a weekend stay.

Powerful AC-Powered, Easily Packed Travel Fan?

I need recommendations for a (travel?) fan that is small enough to not take up much space when packed in a bag, but that nevertheless kicks out a very decent breeze. AC power (not batteries) very much preferred, since it will be used near-constantly and I'd eat through zillions of batteries otherwise. Reasoning explained after the break. [more inside]
