My wife and I are moving across the country in a few months with our furballs,
Steve and
Lola. We're going to fly with them, but I'm not sure if they would be better off with us in the cabin or in cargo. The trip is unavoidably going to involve two flights, the first one will be about 6 to 6:30 hours in length, the second will be 2 to 2:30 hours. The layover between them could be as short as an hour. So total travel time, including getting to/from the airports will probably be around 12-13 hours.

I'm flying next week. My only forms of photo ID are a temporary driver's license and an expired passport. Will the TSA accept these? If I have to go through additional screening, what should I expect?

This November, my wife and I will be flying from Winnipeg, MB to Phoenix AZ, with a brief stopover in Minneapolis MN. A week later, we'll be returning the same way, Phoenix -> Minneapolis -> Winnipeg. We both qualify for Nexus cards and I'm wondering if they would be of any use for the Minneapolis/Phoenix leg of the trip.

In two days I will be taking a series of flights to travel from Australia to Europe for a very much needed month long break. Unfortunately I have a bad cold, secondary infections in my throat and sinuses and generally feel like crap. Given that 27 hours of travel time is not likely to be kind to me, how can I avoid turning up in Edinburgh in even worse shape?

I'm flying to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul airport later this month. My flight arrives around 11 PM, but thanks to an unforeseen scheduling snafu, my ride won't be able to pick me up until early the next morning. Normally, I'd just hang out in the terminal overnight, but on this trip, I'll have a checked bag. What would happen if I just waited until the next morning to retrieve my suitcase from baggage claim?

You know how sometimes you find a single object that makes travel
so much less inconvenient, uncomfortable, or disorganized? I'm going from the US to Russia (St. Petersburg) in a few weeks - please tell me what I would buy now if only I knew of its existence. Stuff for plane trips, packing, or just living out of a suitcase are all welcome.

People always tell me they found cheap flights by not buying direct from the airlines... however, when I search all the sites they recommend and the ones I find via google, they're always about the same price as buying direct from Air Canada. Sometimes AC is cheaper! The same thing happened last year. What am I not understanding here?

Where can I find the written laws that regulate amnesty bins at airports? (Amnesty bins are the bins right before the metal detectors in some airports where you can, according to signs, throw away anything that you can't take through security without penalty.) And, related, are these actually legally binding, or just a gentlemen's agreement? Could someone hypothetically put a stolen painting in the bin, and be free of legal consequence of having stolen it?

I'm going to be studying in Jerusalem next year, and I'd really like it if one of my friends could come and visit me. The only problem is her father - he is very resistant to the idea, and undoubtedly gets his concerns from the news - which we know has an awful tendency of sensationalizing things beyond recognition.
I was hoping you guys could help me put something together that she could show her father, to hopefully help assuage some of his fears. I mean, we're not planning on road-tripping down to Gaza or anything!

My wife and I are looking to pack a carry-on care package for a friend who is flying to China soon. He will be staying there for a month on business. What kinds of things should I send on the plane with him? Just small things that would fit in say a quart size ziplock (or maybe something more creative than a ziplock). Perhaps stuff to do on the plane or maybe something useful once he gets to China? Just plain fun, stupid stuff is good too.
