I reply to a fair number of L.A. travel questions here and many of the answers (including mine) often contain dire warnings about traffic. This happens even if traffic isn't directly related to the question being asked.
So, visitors to our fair city, how bad was the traffic
really, and what information/advice can I give to newbie LA tourists who drive?

Please suggest places to see, things to do, places to stop/stay overnight, and routes to take for a five day car trip between Toronto and Boston? It should only be about 10 hours of direct driving, so plenty of time to stop and visit. Are there any really cool things I've never heard of and shouldn't miss? (Niagara Falls and Montreal are possibilities, but I've already heard of them :) Thank you!

I am going on a road trip next week that will include Ithaca, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and points in between. I'd love some suggestions of fun, amazing, quirky, or air conditioned things to do along the way. We'll be coordinating rest stops so any 'in between' suggestions would be especially appreciated. Moderately physically active OK, strenuous not so much. Trip includes very small children.

My fiancé had plans to drive from Houston to Saint Louis over the next two days. Now it's looking like there is a lot of flooding in the Memphis area and Southeast Missouri. Should she worry, or re-route her drive? What's the best route to take given current conditions?

I have business in the Bloomfield Hills suburb of Detroit in a couple of weeks. Google Maps gives me two routes from the airport car rental to my destination with roughly the same travel time and a third that appears slightly longer. Which is best in terms of ease of navigation for a solo driving Detroit area newb, safe road conditions (especially if it snows), and likelihood that the travel time is accurate (i.e. not prone to massive unexpected delays)?

What are some must-see scenic drives and attractions to be found on a one-way roadtrip West from Cincinnati, OH to Seattle, WA. Mid-40s opposite-sex couple who love photography, don't like hiking very much but appreciate a good hot spring, and are what you would call "foodies". We're thinking about the Badlands and Black Hills, but what else? Also, what stretches of road can we avoid to stave off boredom, and where should we drive instead of them? We can go a bit out of our way, but would like to be back at our jobs within a week.

I plan to drive from Venice, Italy to Valenica, Spain in April or May 2009 using
the following route. I will stay for a few days or weeks in little spots along the way. I should have about six weeks in total. I mostly want to see a little of Spain and Italy, the French Riviera, Montpellier, Marseilles and finish at Valencia. Apart from that anything else I should try to see? Any parts of the chosen route I should avoid? What's driving like along that route? Any rental car companies which will let me pick up in Italy and drop off in Spain?
