I am planning a 2-3 week trip to India this fall, and the dates I can go would be either early October or early November (2014). I've been told that October is still pretty hot, and that early November is a bad time to go because of the Pushkar Camel Fair - that many hotels would be sold out, rates will be high, etc. (Also, I'm a travel consultant and would be less likely to get travel industry rates when hotels are full.)
It's my first trip to India, so I am thinking that I will be mostly in the North - Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi, etc... possibly with a few days in Mumbai.
Which set of dates would you recommend? Any other factors I should consider?

I have an appointment with a clinic to get some vaccinations before a two-week trip to India. My initial chat with the nurse made me feel like she was maybe pushing the "better safe than sorry" angle a bit, so I'm looking for some other opinions and links to good resources for making these decisions on my own. My in-laws are flying in from India to Boston. They've never been to Canada and are curious to see the Eastern part including Toronto, Ottawa, Quebuc, Montreal. Do you have any recommendations on guiding tour companies which they may enjoy. (Please note, they aren't open to renting a car, so I'm researching guided tour options).
Thanks in advance,

Hello, folks. My overthinking tendencies are working overtime as I try to navigate the next few months of my life (job/apartment change, travel?) amidst the fallout of the last few months of my life (end of long term relationship). I can't tell if I'm biting off more than I can chew or if I'm just standing in my own way. [more inside]

I'm going to be travelling to India soon and I wanted to get a prepaid cellular connection for my iPhone to avoid roaming charges and for internet access.
What's the cheapest/best prepaid connection in India (going to be travelling around South India)? Is there some way I can buy it in the US so I can have cellular access from when I immediately arrive? [more inside]

I'm contemplating travelling to India (New Delhi to start with) in January for ~10 days and meeting a friend there who is a naturalized US citizen who was born and raised in India. I know I need a visa in advance of leaving (gathered that much from the US State Dept website) but which kind? And: what else should I know?

I am planning a trip to India by October and so far, places to see in my list include Delhi, Agra, and Varanasi. There's a whole lot more I want to visit but I don't want to exhaust my self with all the traveling as I will only have 2-3 weeks. In addition to the above mentioned places, where do you think can I visit to get a feel of rural India? Somewhere not so populated, countryside, and great interaction with the locals, possibly homestay too. Only requirement is that, it shouldn't be too far from my chosen destinations, somewhere I can stay for like 3 to 4 days immersing myself with the rural life, local culture.

Travelling in India; I'm in Bangalore for a 2 week business trip, on Friday I have 1 week vacation. Part of me would like to see what I can during that time, but I'm also realizing (a) I've become a lazy traveller used to car rentals & Expedia, (b) getting to places here can take a long time. I'm becoming disenchanted because the do-able-ness of planning travel to multiple locations in such a short time seems hard, and I also have relatively heavy luggage & then there's also heat/ rain issues at this time of the year. Am I overthinking a plate of beans? [more inside]

I am going to be in Hyderabad for a month (February) for work and would welcome any feedback and suggestions. I read this
thread but I have some more specific questions:
I am staying in Banjara Hills at the Taj Deccan. I will probably be getting home around 9pm on weeknights. Are there restaurants, etc., in walking distance that would be worth checking out, or should I stick to the hotels? Is it an area one can easily walk around in? How safe is a woman alone at night?
Are there any quick weekend trips worth doing, say leaving Sat and returning Sunday?
What should I see in Hyderabad itself?
I don't want to be too skittish about eating/getting sick, what are commonsense rules to follow?
What are tipping conventions for hotels, restaurants, cabs, tours?
Are there any guidelines I should follow in terms of dress?
I would also welcome any and all other tips. Thanks!
