I'd like to read about the extensive streetcar networks that serviced most US cities in the late 19th / early 20th century. Any recommendations?

When I was in third grade, in the early '90s, we watched a video about the history of transportation, which featured an old couple who'd contemplating taking a horse and buggy, train, car, etc. then decide it wasn't worth the hassle and say "maybe we should just stay home"? Can anyone tell me the name of the video and if it might still be available? Google has yielded me no results. Thanks.
