Where would I find high demand specialty jobs that might help pay for the schooling? I'm looking into a career change and looking for jobs that might be in high enough demand where some entity would paid to get the training/schooling and take that job. I'm not so much looking for low skilled high wage jobs as I am niche jobs that requires education, as I would also like to get a degree. An example is like the way the military requires a 4 year enlistment but you get training and alike out of them. (although I'm to old to try this now) This could also include government sponsored job training programs for specific industries. Maybe like an X-ray tech? I just don't know where to hunt for such things.

I've seen questions on this before, but I have specific details that might make my question unique. My dog (a miniature poodle) has a doggy door and until 3 or 4 months ago we let her have unsupervised access to the backyard. Unfortunately, she decided she didn't like getting her feet wet by going on the grass and started going on the patio. At which point I launched operation supervised poop. [more inside]

One of our office cleaning staff asked me if there are easy ways to learn how to use a computer. This totally threw me - I've a ton of experience about self-paced programming, stats, GIS, etc. - but no clue what to suggest for actually getting to grips for the first time with Windows, safe web browsing and so on. Wrinkle - it has to be free, Windows 7-based, and online - this isn't a paradox, she can open IE and navigate to a webpage. [more inside]

I want to walk a half marathon. My city's marathon is next fall, so I have plenty of time to get ready. I found various training plans online that range from 12-16 weeks, but that's really not what my question is about. I'm wondering, since I have almost a year till then, what should I do be doing now? Does it matter? I'm in good health but haven't exercised consistently lately. Also, general walking-a-half advice is very welcome!
I love my dog Buddy, and he loves me. He loves everyone, really. But starting a few weeks ago he has become very vocally NEEDY. He will not stop whining, and it's driving us batty. Can you dog-trainer-types out there help me figure out how to help him chill out? [more inside]
I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)

I'm looking for software companies that do 1) aptitude-based hiring and 2) on-the-job training: "If you pass a (often language-agnostic) programming test, in addition to in-person interviews, maybe a code review, etc., we will train you for your job." What companies in the Chicago area follow this model? [more inside]

Kitten filter: My wife's new kitten (he is 4 months old now) seems to be going through a biting phase. He especially likes biting hands and arms. We try to spray him with water and say "no biting." Will this be enough to train him not to bite, or is there something else we should be doing? Thank you!
I wake up in the morning at 6am and walk 2km (1.2 miles) to the gym and back five days a week. My workouts last 45 minutes and are aimed at sculpting, working on a body part per day (back, shoulders, chest, arms and legs). I weigh 100kg (220 pounds) and am 180cm (5.9 feet). I want to weigh 85kg (185 pounds). What and when should I eat to loose weight and gain maximum muscle mass? and how long should it take for me to loose this weight? I work from home as a software developer and sit on my ass all day so I don't get any more exercise than that...
How can I house break a 6-year-old rescued scent hound when I live in a condo with shared corridors and an elevator? After searching many rescue listings, I have found a cute dog that seems to be a good fit for me according to the adoption counselors. I plan to meet the dog this weekend and take her home early next week if all works as planned. The rescue agency told me that she doesn't like pooping on leash, but will urinate on leash. They think she'll be OK with the shared corridors and elevator. I'm mainly worried that she will make a mess in these common areas as I don't want to upset my neighbors. It is my understand that she will poop in the house at times because she doesn't understanding the concept of pooping on leash. [more inside]

My dog Duffy is very smart and even though he's pretty old he learns new things fast, so I am doing an experiment with him and I am finding his failure to pick up the trigger puzzling.
