2.5 km to 10km in a month?

Hello. I am signed up to run the Manchester 10 k on 26 May. I have never run any kind of race in my life before, and am REALLY „not sporty“ though I am used to hiking/cycling. I have not, to put it mildly, trained as much as I should. By now I can jog for 2.5 – 3 km in half an hour, and have mostly „trained“ on the treadmill rather than outdoors (I strained a muscle running outdoors and feel like it’s my muscles and joints that are most struggling with the running rather than anything „cardio“ related as such. So my actual question: is it still possible to get myself into a condition where I can get round the route without walking it and without injuring myself (too badly) in the remaining time? Walking a 5K

I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)

How do I loose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

I wake up in the morning at 6am and walk 2km (1.2 miles) to the gym and back five days a week. My workouts last 45 minutes and are aimed at sculpting, working on a body part per day (back, shoulders, chest, arms and legs). I weigh 100kg (220 pounds) and am 180cm (5.9 feet). I want to weigh 85kg (185 pounds). What and when should I eat to loose weight and gain maximum muscle mass? and how long should it take for me to loose this weight? I work from home as a software developer and sit on my ass all day so I don't get any more exercise than that...

How can I as a new runner start slow when I feel like I have a running start?

I'm new to running, but am already very fit and active (cardio workouts 5-7 times a week.) New runners are warned to take it slowly and not push themselves, but how does this apply to someone who's not coming off a couch towards a goal of 5k? [more inside]

Do weight training supplements do anything -- good or bad?

I'm looking to shake up my workouts, shed the excess poundage, and get some more definition -- basically, I'm bored, not making much headway, and would like to get over the hump to better health/muscle shape. Since it's hard to tell the difference between the shills and the real online reviews, advice, etc., I need some Mefite first-hand experience with hydroxycut or similar supplements. [more inside]

Biking in the Basement

I'll soon have a basement, and be able to bring at least one bike inside for the winter, so I'm wondering: do I want a trainer? If so, do I want rollers, a fan-trainer, a fluid-trainer, a mag-trainer, what? I'm not a racer, I'm just looking for an alternative to spinning classes to keep my lungs in shape.
