I am a second-generation cyclist. My father, long ago, rode the San Diego Century in 4'52", back when he was a talented amateur road racer in rural SoCal with very little to do besides ride his bike. I am in my thirties and have a nine-to-five in NYC. Can I break the 5-hour mark? [more inside]
I have recently gotten back into cardio and have signed up for a Spartan a Race in April...yeah me! Now the problem...I think I have extensor tendinitis in my left foot. About a mile into a run/walk, the top of my foot up into my ankle starts to burn. It doesn't stop me, but damn it hurts. I have tried loosening my laces, ice, pain killers...no help. Is there anything other than stopping the cardio? Thanks hive!
Please give me a simple weight training routine that is 1) simple 2) not overly time consuming 3) doesn't progress so fast that I punk out [more inside]
How should I complement my crossfit workouts with strength, cardio and plyometric training? What are some ways (templates and or forms) that you use to track your progress in the gym? [more inside]
I am looking for a clever descriptive term for the idea of training with a "hardship" that when omitted later, makes you feel super-strong. Like when baseball players put that donut thing on their bats while taking practice swings. (Donuting?) Or when you ride a really heavy bike, then switch to a lighter one. Or practice at high altitudes, and compete at low altitudes. Is there already a term that describes this? If not, I am open to any ideas.
So I started working out for real this year as part of my New Year's Resolution. I'm currently doing a version of crossfit, mixed with occasional rock climbing, and I'm seeing good results (Stats below). The problem is that most dieting and training advice I can find for guys is geared towards those who are starting out skinny. I started out overweight and out of shape. I'm currently at what would be a good weight if my BF was lower. What are some good diet resources for someone in my situation? (I like my training regimen and I'm not looking for a new one) [more inside]
What are some peer reviewed, field tested (and legal) methods of improving performance in the gym and on the field, that do not involve transfusing blood or hiring Lance Armstrong's support team? [more inside]
The fact I never liked the "traditional" forms of exercise never bothered me before. That is, until it recently dawned on me activities like going to the gym or running might be the only options I have left. But, with sensitive knees and shins from growing quickly and the residual effects of childhood asthma still occasionally inhibiting my ability to do cardio, these activities seem more foreign than ever. What can I do? [more inside]
So I entered this mud race this morning, kind of on a whim after a friend told me she entered. I was going to do the 12k with friends, but it was full, so I'm doing the 6k by myself. I'm really concerned about the running part because I hate running with a venomous passion. [more inside]

Hello. I am signed up to run the Manchester 10 k on 26 May. I have never run any kind of race in my life before, and am REALLY „not sporty“ though I am used to hiking/cycling. I have not, to put it mildly, trained as much as I should. By now I can jog for 2.5 – 3 km in half an hour, and have mostly „trained“ on the treadmill rather than outdoors (I strained a muscle running outdoors and feel like it’s my muscles and joints that are most struggling with the running rather than anything „cardio“ related as such. So my actual question: is it still possible to get myself into a condition where I can get round the route without walking it and without injuring myself (too badly) in the remaining time? [more inside]
I'm looking for a fitness watch I can use for interval training. I don't need anything fancy, but I do want something that'll vibrate in place of beeping. Can anyone recommend something? [more inside]

I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)
I wake up in the morning at 6am and walk 2km (1.2 miles) to the gym and back five days a week. My workouts last 45 minutes and are aimed at sculpting, working on a body part per day (back, shoulders, chest, arms and legs). I weigh 100kg (220 pounds) and am 180cm (5.9 feet). I want to weigh 85kg (185 pounds). What and when should I eat to loose weight and gain maximum muscle mass? and how long should it take for me to loose this weight? I work from home as a software developer and sit on my ass all day so I don't get any more exercise than that...

I'm new to running, but am already very fit and active (cardio workouts 5-7 times a week.) New runners are warned to take it slowly and not push themselves, but how does this apply to someone who's not coming off a couch towards a goal of 5k? [more inside]

I want to purchase a bike trainer so I can ride indoors during the winter months. What sorts of things should I look for? [more inside]
I'll soon have a basement, and be able to bring at least one bike inside for the winter, so I'm wondering: do I want a trainer? If so, do I want rollers, a fan-trainer, a fluid-trainer, a mag-trainer, what? I'm not a racer, I'm just looking for an alternative to spinning classes to keep my lungs in shape.
