My gym is trying to get to work with a personal trainer for 1 month . I nee to lose 40 pounds. Do you think is worth vs going to the gym on my own?? Would I see better results?
One of the primary roles in my last job was training. At some point I started having panic attacks when I began my training sessions, which was a cause of real distress in the moment, but also longer term as I was now worried about my ability to do my job. Now that my company has closed down, I'm looking for a new job, and I've become aware that I'm subtly discounting opportunities which involve training out of fears related to panic attacks. I really don't think I can afford to overlook these positions in the current job market, but my brain keeps imagining turning up at a new job and having a panic attack in front of a whole new group of people, and naturally things grind to a halt from there. Any thoughts, advice or previous experience would be most welcome; comprehensive history inside. [more inside]
You are neither my doctor nor my trainer. But for the past week and a half I've had random transitory (<1 second) spasming pains (3/10) in my right flank/kidney area. My trainer says it's just tight hamstrings and is working with me to stretch them. Should I adopt a wait and see attitude to see if it really is my hamstrings, or should I be calling the doctor? So it turns out I'm pretty good at my job and I like to teach people. I'm at a place with my job where my department supervisor is comfortable letting me train to new hires and cross-train current employees at my job. I want to create a training program so that I can make sure my trainees are getting the most out of there time with me, but I don't even know where to start. [more inside]
Want to work out to facilitate a great deal of weight loss. Currently "holiday poor" and can't afford a personal trainer, but want to maximize my workout. Member of a gym. Is there a good web site that can help me plan workout routines and give me examples of workouts to do? [more inside]
I have an 8 yr old American Staffordshire (LAILA), I adopted her at 2 years old (she had a past of abuse/neglect). She is an amazing dog but since I got her when I would leave sometimes she would chew anything in sight ...this behavior stopped finally once I worked with her and she started to become more confident in herself/me. Now, the only time she misbehaves is when another dog is introduced into the picture, and I can't get her to stop. [more inside]
I need a bike trainer, bike roller, or an exercise bike. The problem is, I weight 132 kilograms / 290 pounds. I can afford $350, at a stretch. Is there a model of any of these which will both accommodate my weight, and be affordable? My googling turns up nothing.
I've been working out for about two months with a personal trainer. She started off having me do full body workouts that I quite enjoyed - they were sort of boot camp style, in that it was a combination of strength and cardio (ie. lots of burpees and mountain climbers and planks, mixed in with compound strength bearing exercises.) Much to my surprise i have gotten much fitter than I've ever been before, pretty quickly. Now my trainer is transitioning me to workouts that alternate upper body and lower body each day, with more of a focus on strength vs cardio. Is this better? [more inside]

A trainer at my gym recommended this workout and I'm not entirely sure it's safe or effective or the right one for me. I've itemized the routine below, but in short it involves both upper and lower body workout every day, Monday through Friday, three sets of 10 -12, with one muscle group off per day after what he considers the toughest exercise for that body part. I want to solicit a personal trainer to come to my father's apartment twice a week and do a session with him in the building's gym. He's too depressed and demotivated to go on his own accord, but he'll comply if someone shows up at his door. How do I do this without paying a fortune? Are there Human Kinetics students around looking for part-time work? How would I go about finding them? There's also a swimming pool, so a swimming instructor would also be possible, but my dad can't swim, so it'd have to be someone patient enough to coach a cranky 57-year-old in swimming. I would like to be certified as a fitness trainer and possibly in diet therapy. In looking at online and corespondent courses it seems there are a lot of different orgs to go through. Some are obviously not so great and a scam in themselves. I have pretty much narrowed my search down to a few: The ISSA, AFPA, and NASM look to be the best options. But there is such a span in tuition and course options. Any recomendations from anybody in the field?

I'll soon have a basement, and be able to bring at least one bike inside for the winter, so I'm wondering: do I want a trainer? If so, do I want rollers, a fan-trainer, a fluid-trainer, a mag-trainer, what? I'm not a racer, I'm just looking for an alternative to spinning classes to keep my lungs in shape.
