Why don't drivers at least in California don't use their turn signals? [more inside]
I would like to buy a used car, drive it all summer (commuting to a short-term job), then sell it. I'm a newish driver, first car, first time getting auto insurance. Recently I got a major traffic ticket, for which I've already requested a trial. It's likely I'll be done with the car before the trial date arrives. How will this pending ticket affect my insurance? Also, I don't know if my infraction is potentially worth demerit points- how would I find that out? [more inside]
How is driving on I-95 on Christmas and New Year's Day? [more inside]
Until very recently, I lived in a college town where having a car was completely unnecessary. Though I had my license, I rarely drove. I am now in a place where having a car isn't absolutely necessary, but more convenient. At my parents' behest, I also now have a car, which I'm very grateful for. However, there's such a mental block for me to drive said car that I haven't driven anywhere for over a week. Any suggestions to overcome this general avoidance of driving? [more inside]
I reply to a fair number of L.A. travel questions here and many of the answers (including mine) often contain dire warnings about traffic. This happens even if traffic isn't directly related to the question being asked. So, visitors to our fair city, how bad was the traffic really, and what information/advice can I give to newbie LA tourists who drive? [more inside]
I've had a particularly awful experience on Friday that made me pull over and cry for a few minutes. LA freeways are a nightmare, and I really need ideas on how to internally deal with assholes on the road, and repeated incidents of dangerous aggression. I don't know how everyone else does it! A motorcycle cop turned on the flashing lights and started weaving back and forth between cars on the highway. The passes kept getting wider, gradually prompting everyone to clear out of all 4 lanes and hang back about 1/4 mile behind him. Then he continued these sweeping 'S' maneuvers across the lanes for miles. By the time I had to exit, prevailing speed had dropped from 75 to 40. What was he doing, and why?

I’m driving considerably more than I used to, and have noticed an interesting phenomenon as a result. At least once a day, I see a driver coming towards a stop sign, prepared to make a rolling stop, fixated on looking to their right. At the final second, they look to the left and slam the brakes upon seeing an approaching vehicle. I’d like to figure out why these folks look to the right, instead of the left, which is the lane that will crash into them first. Am I just noticing the bad drivers because they stand out, or there a better explanation?
