Who is the best "buy and hold" online brokerage (and what should I buy)?

My wife and I are going to dip our toes in the stock market. For the foreseeable future, I see us doing nothing other than buying (hopefully) reliable dividend-paying stock and holding it for the long- long-term (like 30 years or more potentially). We won't be doing options or even active trading other than occasional additional purchases. Who of the cheap online brokerages should we use? [more inside]

Need intraday stock data for an index

I've been trying to find what should be simple: intraday data on a large market index (such as the S&P 500). I'm willing to pay, but most sites seem to be interested in selling me collections of N stocks (where N is 12, 50, 100...), often by year, and at that rate, I'd end up paying $100s to get 11+ useless chunks of data, and one useful one (because for my purposes, I really only want to look at a single index). What are some economical sources for what I want? And, FWIW, I already know how to extract intraday (minute-wise) data from Yahoo and Google, but that's only good for about the last 90 days or so.

Help find a discontinued bag, or something like it

I finally found the bag to replace my old worn out one, but before I could pull the trigger Duluth stopped selling it. I wanted the postmasters tote (link to old page) picture one, two, three. Does anyone know a third party still carrying it or anywhere that has a similar bag. I really liked the space, and look with the fire-hose and leather materials. I have found one old e-bay sale and no hits on the Chicago area Craigslist. I know the Green does great with bags, please help.

How to deal with draconian personal trading restrictions when working in a Wall St bank

I've just accepted a job at a large Wall St bank. I have a large amount of cash to allocate at the moment and don't want to leave it in the bank earning zero interest. Jobs buying low and selling high?

What careers mainly involve buying low and selling high by knowing a market in great detail, in part by making contacts and in part by combing through reams of information - and how does a college student get an entry level job in them? NOT interested in entrepreneurial suggestions, or things that require much theory or advanced mathematics (no i-banking/hedge funds) - more emphasis on information-gathering and shrewdness. What reasonably solid jobs might there be and what's the entry path (recommended academic background, internships, etc.)?
