Does an internal GPS device for tracking a laptop exist?

What I'm looking to find out is if there is an internal GPS device which can go in an empty slot in my laptop in order to track it should it be stolen? I found some services here (some links work, some don't), but I think they all use WiFi as a way of tracking, which, correct me if I'm wrong, would be a problem for me in rural parts of Asia. What would you/do you track in a daily record?

Jumping on the Self-Tracking/Quantified Self bandwagon and looking for suggestions for variables apart from the usual kind (diet, exercise, sleep, time spent online etc.) to track on a daily basis. If you do this, could you share the parameters you like to monitor and record? (Or better yet, share a template for your spreadsheet?!) All suggestions, no matter however subjective, quirky or esoteric are welcome. I will be using the spreadsheet tool in Google Docs. Thanks!

Research cost tracking

My research group currently tracks our expenses (for lab supplies, travel, etc.) by printing copies of receipts and then manually tallying them in an Excel spreadsheet. Can anyone recommend a web service that will make this process easier? We'd prefer something free (or self-hosted), but are open to low-cost options as well. [more inside]

Font Tracking: Publisher vs. Pagemaker Values

I have a MS Publisher Document that I need to change the font tracking on. The change in the tracking must correspond to -50 and -25 tracking settings in PageMaker, but the Publisher expresses tracking values in terms of percentage. Anyone have a guess as to what percentage in Publisher would equal -50 and -25 in Pagemaker?

What information can website owner track about visitors?

This is going to be a super-broad question: What kinds of information can the owner of a website glean about its visitors? For instance, can they see where you were just prior, or where you go when you leave? Under what circumstances would you be individually identifiable? Etc.

Gimme 20 more!

Looking for a website to help me, a late thirties male, who wants to get in shape. Not obese by any stretch of the imagination, but not as slim and trim as he and his doctor feels he should be. BMI of about 26. I know the general range I tend to feel best at and in that range I do tend to fall into the healthy BMI range. I’m more concerned with feeling good than with being at the exact right weight to get to the right BMI for my height and age. I want to lose a little weight, trim up, look better, abs of steel, ass to match, etc. [more inside]

Seeking shared online multi-part project managing solution

I am working with several other people to seek sponsorship for a non-profit event. There is a fairly simple but lengthy series of actions that needs to be completed to track each unique sponsor. We've thought about having a binder with a printed page showing tasks for each sponsor, but it would be preferable if there was an online solution any of us can access for checking off and date-stamping completed tasks, with a place to add notes. Old guy walks into a bar...

Is there a way to track a human being electronically for their own safety and not entirely with the person's consent? I'm asking this for a friend whose father has mild alzheimer's and wanders off. I'm not really asking if it's moral to do this but if you feel the need to give your opinion on that, knock yourself out. I want to know if there is a technology that will allow her to track her father's movements electronically, not through a cell phone or a bracelet or implanting something under his skin. If it matters, this is in New York City.

How do I track simple library stats quickly?

I'm a librarian and general tech-assistance resource at a high school library. (So I also do password changes for school accounts, fix the copier, and put paper in the printer, besides reference questions and more involved projects.) The classic way to track what questions a librarian answers is with a piece of paper and hash marks. Due to our paper reduction desires (and my desire to not have a piece of paper taking up valuable desk space), I'd really like a way to track this via computer. We want to keep simple stats both so we can demonstrate what we're doing that isn't a big obvious project, but also so we can show if specific choices have a very high staff-time cost that keeps us from other things. (Like how they decided to handle student passwords this year.) [more inside]
