I'm planning on visiting the East Coast this July -- the area roughly from Boston to Washington, DC. I don't really have a set plan yet, aside from visiting NYC for a couple of days (up to a week), hopefully visiting Boston for a few days, and hanging out along the Maryland/DC border for a conference. Travel tips/suggestions?

What are the most popular, clichéd touristy things to do in London? You know, like posing with the Queen's guards, taking a ride in the Eye, and eating fish and chips.

I have a free day in California I wasn't expecting. What can one man do today in, oh, 12 hours? I'm staying in Corona, but I'm willing to travel around and spend some money (up to $200 for argument's sake).

Can anyone recommend interesting daytime places to hang out around Paddington, London? Could be as far as Bayswater or Little Venice... unusual shops, cafés, restaurants? Thanks!
