I was invited to a cool work conference in Anchorage Alaska in late June, and after the conference I would
really really really like to try and see Denali if at all possible. I will only have 2 - 2 1/2 days.
Aside from the short time-frame, I will be all by myself. Also, I have two legs and can walk, but 'wilderness survival,' is not exactly something I have any mastery off.
Any general advice, specific advice, or help would be appreciated.

I ran across a travelogue a while back of two young women going on a long bicycle tour in the Eastern U.S. in the 1930s or 1940s. I think they started from Pennsylvania or another nearby state and originally intended to go west, but ended up going south. On the return trip, I think they took a boat up the Mississippi or another major river. Does this ring a bell?

We're in Corvallis, OR, on bicycles. We're trying to get back to Davis, CA, (from Portland) but our pace has been 30mi/day rather than the 50mi we expected. How do we get home with our two recumbent bikes by September 13 and enjoy it too?

My family is traveling to Florence in October. This is not our first Florentine rodeo, so to speak - we've done a lot of sightseeing and exploring on past visits. This time, we thought it might be fun to delve a little deeper and take a class (cooking?), workshop, special organized tour, etc. Four adults, fairly foodie, up for anything that isn't too physically strenuous. Any MeFi "Been There Done That" recommendations?

I have a bunch of friends coming to visit me at the bay area. I want to be the perfect host and I've done my research on what fun things to do to make sure they have a good time. I have two remaining doubts though: how to get all of us around in the city using public transportation, and the nightlife.

If you buy your ticket ahead of time for
a tour of the Washington Monument (in Washington, DC), how early should you show up in order to pick up your ticket at Will Call and make it to the tour on time? Is 30 minutes sufficent? 1 hour? This is for next week, so it is (obviously) not peak season. Thanks.

This seems a bit shady, but regardless, is there any advice for this situation? It doesn't sound like the company is owning up to anything.
