I run a retail business in Toronto, Canada. It's an independently owned business--like a mom and pop store. I need to fire someone because he's incompetent and his presence actually makes more work for the other staff. I have emailed and texted with this staff member (who has worked with us for 13 months) regarding his considerable transgressions but we do not have "paperwork" or "forms" in the traditional sense. His work never improves.
What exactly do I have to do to fire him without worrying about legal issues? Two weeks pay? Three? Does the firing need to be written in addition to verbal or is just verbal fine? What's the best way for me to cover my ass?

Due to a recent and very vigorous visit to pukesville, I'm pretty sure that I've dislocated my jaw. Would a walk-in clinic or urgent care clinic (if those exist) be able to put my jawbones back in order, or does this mean a lengthy trip to the ER? I am in downtown Toronto.

Please help me to find, and to understand Toronto's Construction and Parking By-Laws, and then how to have them enforced and upheld strictly, quickly, and legally in order to protect our rights, our property and our peace of mind.
I have been to the city's website, and have downloaded Chapter 363 Building Construction and Demolition and am trying to understand how to apply the information in it. I've Googled, and have written to the City Planner and our local Councillor's office for information and advice - but know from experience that their responses take days if not weeks and I see that we will sometimes need to immediately effect change. Jokingly mentioning to the construction workers "Please kind to your neighbours!" isn't working. I need to take Gladys Kravitzing to the next level.
